Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - New BIKE!

WOOOOO HOOO!

Got a new bike in the garage! Unfortunately it's NOT for me but my Wife. She had me trying to resurrect her old 78 Peugeot and it was just too far gone. I'm happy that she wants to ride again. Went to the Shop I worked at and bought her a Trek 7000 WSD. Not the best bike in the world, but she already feels much more comfortable on it than any bike she's ever ridden.

I think the Peugeot will be stored in the basement and I'll dig up some parts to restore that and take my time with it. There is a lot of history behind that bike because that is a bike that we bought in England and toured around England with that bike. It's had a Child seat on it and many miles.

Your wife and mine are on the same riding habits I see :D. I so want to get her to ride more, but I have to live with what I can get at the moment.

We had a set of Matching Peugeot's that were European Specs. They had full fenders, hard mounted dynamos with a headlight/taillight, a rear rack and pretty wide gearing to boot. We bought these bikes back in 1977 at the BX in England and toured around the Great Wash or North Eastern part of England. It was a wonderful time for two folks that had only been married for a couple of years.

After we the first year, we were both down in weight and riding pretty well. That August we found out we were finally pregnant, and in September found out it would be TWINS! That started the second life for the Bikes, with having child carriers on the back.

So you can see there is some History with this bike. Mine is long gone. Stolen during shipping back home, and I could not afford to get a new one back then in 1980.

My bike is a bike I have built up from a Nashbar frame and that I have posted here. Her Peugeot will be restored, it's just going to take time. Her new Trek is the 7000 Women Specific Design Mixte. Very basic, but a bike she was able to get on and feel right at home one. Of course I'm wondering how I'll get an LX or XT rear Derailluer on it and see if she notices! LOL!

Well, Here is a picture of my Clyde Bike and the wife's new Trek on top of the Jeep. Getting ready to head out for a little ride along the river path this morning. Should be fun! Trailer for the Grandson is in the back, just waiting for him to wake up to go.

Ain't that the truth. When I do get her out she is not in good riding shape (although she is in great shape because she runs everyday). She ends up slowing me down, and complaining about the wind, hills, heat, bugs, etc. One day we did a 25 miles and she was wasted. I checked her tires and they were both at 30PSI. Oops! After that she never asked to go riding.

Ya know. I looked it over and looked it over and other than some parts that I'll change out in time, there ain't nothing to be afraid of on this bike. Our ride was a success and we road about 7 miles total today. I had the trailer and the Grandson with me so I had the weight! LOL! We all had a good time!
