 I was on Corral cyn in Malibu, going home, when the bottom bracket began creaking with the slow rotation (approx 7 mph and gasping), any thoughts on possible problems? In the flats it was silent.

Common problem, usually solved by tightening it up. However, it may need re-greasing, or even replacement, depending on alof of different factgors.

Do a search, and then ask again in the Bicycle Mechanics section, here: http://www.bikeforums.net/forumdisplay.php?f=10

Cheers!

Could be your crankbolt(or fixing bolt) coming loose. What kind of BB do you have?

BSA ? bottom bracket with Dura Ace and True Vativ Carbon cranks ... only 100 miles on the bike.

Sounds like you have an external bearing BB. I bet your fixing bolt is loose, but DScott is right, you should try the mechanics forum. Or...with less than 100 miles on a DA rig I'm betting it is new and your lbs will fix it for free. Take it in-usually this is the best advice for any noise or problem.

In any case, you should check (and periodically keep checking) the torque on the crank arm fixing bolts. If you end up pulling the cranks off, then maybe as suggested you want to re-grease and reinstall. If the cups are not snug in the threads of the BB shell as you screw them back in (i.e. if you can rock them laterally), maybe pull them out again and wrap a layer of plumber's teflon tape on the threads of the cups before you reinstall.
