Last week I posted about breaking spokes on my rear wheel after a long jump, for those that may have read the post. Me and my dad were talking and he was wondering if a FS bike may have prevented the breaking, since there would be a shock to absorb the impact on the rear wheel. Now I am by no means going to use the answers to possibly buy a new bike. The $41 to rebuild my wheel is much cheaper than a FS rig, and besides that I just bought a road bike last week too. I was just curious as to what people thought, because I found it to be an interesting question. Your thoughts?

Yes it might have helped. Some of the absorbtion of the dually would remove pressure off the wheel. what tire pressure do you run. Running lower tire pressure on jumps definately helps too as it acts like a mini shock. Also wider tires help to disperse pressure. There are many tricks. But spokes break its a part of riding. (jumping on a ht looks so much sweeter than a dually anyways)

It would help to some degree, but even with a FS, if you ride rough, your parts will break!

You only say that cause you only have a HT... us riding the duallies have SO much style it's not even funny..haha, just kidding

Yah I agree, rear suspension helps! Especially if you aren't the smoothest rider! But I also think experience and practice will help you more than anything!

you say to run a lower pressure when doing drops and jumps, but would that increase the likelyhood of pinchflats and dented rims? I would rather have to rebuild a wheel then buy a whole new rim.

You would need to run larger tires such as 2.5 or bigger. They would also need a stiffer side wall. Also, installing Dh tubes would help.

As previously mentioned, spokes are going to break. You just have to make sure there is proper tension in all the spokes.

I weigh 270lbs and I break as many spokes on my fs rigs as I do on my ht because of the riding I do. Your spokes were probably a bit looser then they should have been or they were worn from hard riding.

As dbd says the lower pressure goes with bigger tires. I run in between 25 and 30psi on a 2.5 to 2.7 VERY strong tire :)

Ok, here's a little more info. The rims were brand new Rhino Lites with Deore hubs. The tires were the original Kenda 1.95" tires and the LBS installed everything so the PSI was probably around 40 like the tire suggests. They told me I can pick the wheel up tomorrow. I've already dropped so much coin, maybe I'll buy some larger tires.

I'm by no means a world class jumper. I was happy with only breaking spokes, and nothing on me. I landed perfectly which to me was more important. Thanks for the info.
