Hi All,
I just picked up a Schwinn Voyageur S/P (I spelled it wrong in the title) today. Its a bit dirty, but looks to be in pretty good condition. All the components read SP Deore, but they are not labled Shimano? I think all it needs are some new cables, brake levers (It has long reach levers, with road calipers.... Ouch), and to have the bearings re-packed in the wheels/headset, and air in the tires and it should be ready to ride, anyways, heres the pics!

so, I cleaned it all up today, re-packed the headset, BB, hubs, new cables, drop bars, new chain, blah blah...

Anyways, the rear der. is trash. I need a long cage der because of the triple in the front, what kind of der can I buy that will shift the 5spd freewheel?

Would a regular MTB 8spd long cage der work?

Search ebay for the same one, the Shimano long cage Le Tour, which became Dura Ace, a Shimano 600 long cage, or go for a Campagnolo Rally. And nearly any long cage Suntour. Lots and lots of choices. Here's a new Suntour that I spotted.

what about something like this, I know its hideous, but the price is right, and I really want to start riding this thing. It should work w/ friction shifters.. right?

Yup, that'll work, but your right, it's hideous.
Friction shifters will work fine with it. Indexing is done in the shifters, not the derailleur.
