So I'm going along a 3 lane road practicing VCing and using up the space I'm allowed to. Really, I do VCing on that road because the drivers are just nuts; give them enough room and they'll squeeze in and try to run you off the road.

So this one really fat lady in a 4 door Focus starts honking at me. I look into my helmet mounted mirror and I see her waving her arms trying to tell me to get off the road. I hold my ground, after all... I'm traffic too and I'm allowed to use that piece of road just like any other slow moving vehicle.

She finds an opening in the middle lane to her left and passes me all the while honking on her horn, screaming obsenities at me through her open window, which I can't hear because she's honking at the same time, and giving me the finger. As she passes in front of me I make a mental note of her licence plate.

The funny part? About 300M ahead of me she does a right hand turn onto a side road and does another right hander into a restaurant. All this for a mere 300M stretch of road? Damn... how impatient are these fat people when they see a restaurant?

I eventually get there and she was out of sight. Didn't know fat people could charge into a restaurant that fast. But I found her car though.

I left her a small "thank you note" for beiing such an inconsiderate person. ;)

Since your had her license plate, and she was parked, you should have called in a complaint to the authorities. That'll teach her.

How do you figure?

It's quite simple: Don't mess with me and I won't mess with you. It's just my "Don't get mad, get even" sort of mentality.

Hopefully she got the message and she'll learn to be a better citizen... for both our sakes.

Aw, get a backbone folks! When it is ever okay to, in the words of someone here who should become famous for them, "casually almost kill someone?"

For bicycling to become a respected transportation alternative, society must learn that there are consequences to abuse. People don't abuse strangers walking on the street because retaliation is immediate. If I get into a shouting match with a motorist, I want him to fear my retaliation as much as I might fear his. I want him to fear that perhaps I will recognize his car or license plate in a parking lot somewhere and slash his tires. I want to make him fear stopping within my sight. It's a small world; I want him to know that.

See, otherwise, the abuse doesn't stop.

Backbone? Is that what you call sneaking around carving anonymous messages into some woman's car?

I assume the little sneak didn't sign his name or provide his address so that the woman or friends might respond.

Bad analogy... people don't abuse other people because they are "equals"... Make one a 4000 lb "giant" and one a 300 lb "normal" and there would be "issues."

Nope, escalating the violence won't help our cause.

Now if you want to wait until someone is parked and out of the car, and then confront them... well then you are "equals," and perhaps they might just listen at that point.

I understood that, I also read that you left a "message" in the OP... you did not say at that time that the message was damage to the paint.

All I am saying is that retaliation goes both ways... and physics favor the motorist. Next time either talk to them, or leave a non-damaging "message." Or if you think it will do any good, call the police.

As an aside, as I am not condoning the retaliation, "poetic justice" might be something as simple as letting the air out of her tires... forcing her to actually walk. Does that multi tool have a "core tool?"

Fat people don't bother reading "non damaging" messages. They're way too lazy for that.

I wish it did. But I don't have one of those special caps to remove the insides of the shrader valves.

Note to self: Add Shrader valve removal end cap to bike tool kit.

That was obvious. You wouldn't be the Bold Marauder with your multi tool if you had to face the lady up close and personal.

If justice was served she would have caught you in the act and demonstrated to you the ineffectiveness of your Styrofoam beanie when struck by her cane or tire iron.

Yes, I read all of your excuses and justifications. They don't alter the truth.

If you're not lazy why don't you ditch the crutch and remove your electric motor and ride like normal folks do?

You obviously don't know squat!

Sounds to me like you're just repeating the same narrow minded rhetoric I always hear from the elitists.

So you like getting to the office all sweaty and stinky? Good for you stinky.

Zeuser

I know that you're self-admittedly lazy.

I'm not an elitist. I'm just pointing out the simple fact that you are lazy, just like the alleged "lazy fat woman" that you had issues with.

I've never had the stinky problem after arriving at the office. Try taking a shower before you ride into work and educate yourself about what causes body odor, lazy bones.

If I really were lazy, I'd be driving my luxury car everywhere.

You know what... maybe I'll just stop riding my eBike, trade in my luxury car for a luxury SUV and prove you right. Why not? Since I'm really that lazy perhaps I should really act that way. After all, I have the cash to do it... why not? I'm sure Mrs. Faty in her Focus won't go honking at a Lincoln Navigator. Hey... there you go.. double whammy. Prove the elitest right and shut up the horn happy fatty.
Dumbass elitists

I'm really not to worried about your ebike, not to worried about what kind of car makes a lazy person, and really don't care about the body fat % of the women driver. The issue I have is the illegal act of vandalizing her property no matter how distastefull you find said property. I mean when I bike home from work I run into a few bikers/cyclists who are riding without lights on the wrong side of the road. I don't go macing these folks even though it's really not "that bad". When I am driving my suburban and a cyclist is doing the same thing, wrong side of road, no lights I don't blare my horn at them. It's not the right way to act, what part of vandalizing another persons property seemed ok to do? I wonder if she had just stopped in for a drink of water maced you and run over your road bike as she left if it would have been the correct way to deal with it....eh just curious I guess.

Zeuser

That's really cute, in a very cowardly way.

A lazy coward. What a powerful combo!

I was just testing you. Now that I know you don't miss a thing you have no execuse for not reading about the eBike myths. So I also take it that you saw the Bionx chart while you were reading that link? That doesn't make any sense to you?

Oh.. and if you're not working out hard enough, I can switch my Bionx into a real workout machine. We'll see just how healthy you really think you are.

So you really think an eBike is a crutch? Very narrow minded indeed.

Your view is quite stupid because the only person it harms the most is yourself. eBikes are an excellent way for people to get back into biking and leave any gas powered vehicle at home. And the more that happens, the more you benefit from it by having more bike friendly roads, more bike awareness and so on.

Also, your view on laziness is quite idiotic. A person leaves his gas guzzling luxury car at home for 3 months and jumps on his eBike and you're going to call that lazy?

Next you're going to call Rollerbladers lazy for not walking like normal people I suppose?

I didn't want to go inside the restaurant and cause trouble to everyone else there who have nothing to do with this. Why ruin their evening for something she did to me?

And yes... I was so incensed by this that I would've given her one hell of an earful. I don't think I would've assaulted her though.

Nope. That's just you flailing around some more.

If you're going to claim someone is lazy for using a motor to get around, you're a hypocrite when you also use a motor to get around.

Why do you find it so difficult to pedal a bicycle?

Nope, I understand that you pedal your ebike, with assistance.

Why are you so lazy that you cannot pedal your bicycle without assistance from a motor?

Why do you think that pedaling with assistance is lazy? Wouldn't a lazy person not pedal at all?

Zeuser
07-02-07, 10:55 PM
Because if you weren't a lazy git, you wouldn't need the help of a motor.

Laziness isn't a black and white issue.

Yes, some lazy folks would drive instead of pedaling. Just as some lazy folks would use a motor to help them pedal rather than pedaling for themselves.

So aren't you a lazy person as well for not walking? After all, you're being lazy by using the mechanical advantage of a machine rather than just the legs you were born with.

How would YOU have handled it?

This is what I would do, but only try it if you are confident speaking before a room of strangers.

I would have waited untill she was settled in, taking the time to prepare my little 'public service announcement'. Then I'd go into the restaurant, walk up behind her and announce to the room in a business-like tone "excuse me ladies and gentlemen, please be very carefull as you leave the premises as this lady here has some anger issues, in fact she nearly killed me in a fit of road rage just 300 meters up the road. She drives a [color/make/model] registration [reg#]. Do be carefull as she may also be leaving the parking lot at the time. Thank you and enjoy your meals" I'd give her a big smile and a thumbs up as I left.

It would have to be delivered nice and fast, the trick to it is to leave of your own accord and if approached by staff/security be very friendly to them (act as if you know them) as you leave. Don't push it and get phisically carried out otherwise your message loses the desired effect. If the fat woman has a violent reaction it would be perfect, that would just prove what you announced.

I can virtually guarantee this will work, I have used public embarassment before and found it to be very effective at modifying bad driver behaviour.
