My "FIND" at the swap meet....
Sadly, I attended quite underfunded. I get paid Monday. :(
Sooo...with the $30 I had dangling in my account, I went to "window swap", so to speak.
First item; cool looking red bottle cages en masse. $5 ea. I need 3 matching red ones for my Ferrari.
Next were some cool black upwrong bars for $10.
Then I ran into one of my old paintjobs!
The "Mother of Pearl Swirl".
Only $600, but the matching fork was gone.
Traded for a new one in candy red that's threadless.
The frame is an off white pearl color, so it was quite a clash.
Now the things I couldn't afford.
~A beautiful pair of (unfortunately) tubular wheels with Phil hubs. 126 x 36 hole. $100.
I tried $30 becuase I really only wanted the hubs. No go.
~Some nice Scott Superbrake calipers. $75/pair. Sad, twice my budget & he wouldn't go $30 either.
But, amongst all the cool bikes & bits, I DID happen to spy one item of real interest.
At first pass, I somehow knew . . . . . it would be mine. I knew no one else there would want it.
2nd pass I spotted the price. $200.
Not bad, but I figured it was open to "interpretation". But likely still beyond my $30 budget.
So I left empty handed and headed over to see DirtDrop about his PX10.
.....
Now, more "funded" than before, I battled my way back across the Richmond Bridge to Mill Valley.
Arriving at Strawberry Elementary around 1:00, the meet was wrapping up.
I quickly dashed for the wheels!
Seller had left.
OK, where are those brakes?
Yup! Same deal. :(
The bottle cages? Packed up.
Bars? Same.
LAST item on the list . . .
It was still there. The seller had waited all day for me to return. New price? $100!
He'd even deliver it if I could pay the balance upon dropping it off.
I hemmed & hawed. Decided to pass.
Seller..."OK, I don't want to take it home! $30 and it's yours!"
"SOLD! Thank you very much!" :D
So here it is...a 70's Gitane mixte tandem boat anchor!! :D :roflmao:
The left side drive is BMX chain, while the right side drive is standard deraileur width.
Factory cantilever studs (one messed-up on the fork) and a rear drum brake.
Even has the original chrome fenders!
While I type this, my 6 yr old is taking parts off of it for me. What a kid!
That, my friends, was my one (within budget) swap meet purchase. :)
I'm happy, the wife's happy, are you happy?
WHAT did you get there?
