Where have you ridden? Favorite hills? So you're geared for these hills?

I live here now but I'm originally from New Orleans so I find the hills pretty awesome too.

My "standard" route is from Centennial/Vinicator down Centennial to 30th St then into Garden of the Gods and on past balanced rock and into Manitou to the end of town, then back to Colorado Ave to downtown, turn on Cascade, then down to just before Fillmore where I pick up the bike path and hop over to Mark Dabling, then on to Garden of the Gods Rd and back up to Centennial and back home. It's a 25-mi route. Sometimes I hit the bike trail behind Colorado College for an extra 5-mi loop and if I really feel up to it I can add a Centennial to Vindicator to Rockrimmon to Woodmen and back to Centennial lopp for another 10-mi with a big climb past Blodgett Peak. I run a standard 53x39 crank and 13-28 cassette on my main bike. That's good enough for anything but Cheyenne Canyon or Cave of the Winds. For my fixie I normally run a 38x15.

Of course I can't stop for a cafe au lait and beignets at the Cafe du Monde like back home :( Starbucks is a poor substitute. Oh well. There's always Jack Quinn's for after the ride.

-DerrickLa Bagette has two locations on the route you describe, Old Colorado City and Downtown. Cafe au lait and pastries are excellent! Try their French Onion soup, it's the best!!

If you like climbing;
Start out at the north entrance to the academy. North Gate road to Struthers Road to Glen Eagle Drive to Sun Hills road to Stella, and then north on Roller Coaster road to County Line road. About 8 -10 miles to the top from the north gate. Then head west on County line road to Palmer lake and then back south to the Academy. About 30 miles round trip and a pretty good work out with lots of up and lots of down too...

My last triathlon was in N.O. Love that place!

My SS is geared a bit high for those epic hills but I'm getting used to the rollers on the way to work at Woodmen & I-25 from 12th and Kiowa.

Yeah it has been some butt woopin!

Sounds like we need to get a group ride together. What's the plan? Unfortunately, I'm not available until Sunday (7/8) after 3:00 but if that works for someone, let me know.

Good idea. Might have to be the following weekend though if you are out until 3:00 Sunday. I'm usually done by then to avoid the afternoon thunderstorms. I usually start around noon most Sundays and then meet up with the Colorado Springs Cycling Club group ride that meets at Acacia Park at 1:00 PM and finish up around 3:00 back at the park. Saturdays I like to leave early so I can get back and get some work done around the house. Either would work if we can get some folks together.

Some beautiful stuff there. I lived in the Springs for 12 years near Templeton Gap.
