Southern California - Can't we all just get along? Arrogant riders!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Today's ride started out just fine. A buddy of ours trying out cycling duds for the first time. Guy rides in OP cord shorts all the time. Today he shocks us and shows up in a full cycling kit. He plans on riding with us for a short while then riding back as his wife is waiting for him. They have plans to attend a play in Hollywood or something. We run into another friend as we stop at the Honda Center for water.

All is fine and dandy till the arrogant basturds show up! They ask if we are riding all the way to the beach. Boyd informs him that we are but that he isn't. Then the guy gets stupid and starts rambling on on how he should be able to ride all the way cause he has a more than good enough carbon fiber Specialized roadie. Then goes on an on not knowing Boyd is retired and rides to the beach 6 days a week. Boyd remains quiet with the 'Oh Well' expression.

So we take off, then Boyd hits his turnaround point. We say bye and continue on. Then we notice that our other bud has stopped at Edna Park with Boyd. Darn, we turn back and head back to stop with him. Just then I see all the aroogant basturds flying by. But one guy looks friendly and says hi. Holy cow, it's BF'er LewisAClark. Doesn't post much but we see him just about every weekend on the trail.

So I rush our bud from the park cause I really want to catch the paceline of AB's for being rude to my friend. I guess I wanted to see just how good their bikes were!:D

We start off and they are out of sight. I figure now I may not catch them but keep the pressure on anyways. A few miles down the road I see them about half a mile ahead. I apply more pressure but not sure if we'll catch them before the beach. I can feel my legs burning as I had a hard effort ride the day before with BF'er Chuck5.2.

I can see we are gaining so I push harder. I know that I'm really testing Gina at this point. She never complained. We get to the final wooden bridge and there they are. I start to push even harder, sorry Gina but she's doing great. Right then our bud falls off. Gina informs me but I tell her if he starts with us, he finishes with us. He didn't so he's on his own. I've told him the rules several times before.:p

Right at the last underpass we pass the group with a friendly hello from LewisAClark. I figure we would hang on but they slowed so we just went by. The guys at the front took Gina's wheel for a short bit but quickly dropped. Not sure why! We just continued on. Then all of a sudden I see one guy zip by at a high pace. He gets far ahead but I tell Gina if he slows we'll get him back too. So I watch him and sure enough he slows so I push hard to catch him. We pick up the pace and catch the guy right at the end of the trail. Wish I had another 30 seconds, we would have blown by him.

So we stop at our usual and watch the other riders pull up. We start a conversation with LewisAClark and our other bud. I look over at the AB's to see what their reactions are. They keep looking at us and lowtalking. I glance over at them and give 'em that ' you just got dropped by a fat dude in a t-shrit and a grandma with one kidney' look!:D

Gina hardly ever has attitude with other riders but this time was different. She was really upset that the guys talked to our bud in a rude manner. I told her that I was sorry for pushing her so hard but I really wanted to catch them. She said it was all fine cause she did too! That's unusual for Gina, but these guys were Arrogant Basturds!:p

All in fun and stuff that keeps the rides interesting!:D

Our happy lil group before the AB's!

Yes Beanz,

One of these days I should try a SART ride with your group! Not sure if I could keep up at the pace you're riding, but it would be fun to try! Rode Santiago Canyon with the Rebels on Sat. and that was hot enough . . . can't imagine how hot SART would have been.

AwwwMan! Sorry about that. I have seen the jersey and thought it might be a beer. But I couldn't be sure cause I'm not a beer dude, just look like one as some can't tell the diference between a tortilla and a beer gut!:D

Your AB's weren't the Team Bikes Direct that I saw at the park by the golf course and the first wooden bridge were they?:p

I did a run starting at 6a from my house in Anaheim to DP and back, and caught the SART back up at around 10a. It was already stinking hot by then. Kudos for you guys handling the barometric pressure.

Yeah, they think they are! They have to go train on GMR for that! Speaking from experience, trying to keep up with you fast guys on GMR makes for good training. I think the slowest of our group can kick azz on most of the trail riders!:D..OH yeah, you guys are the $hit!;)

No, it was just a group of about 6 or 7 guys, various jerseys and outfits. I think I saw the mentioned team, they were friendly people.

anytime you ride with faster riders, you WILL get faster, you push more then you normally would any day of the week and they push back. I love riding with riders on both side of the spectum.

Hey Mr. Beanz,
I didn't know this competitve side of you, man! :D I know you would stop and help anybody or go SAG a GMR ride only after a couple of hours of sleep, but kicking arse for fun. Man, I think it wasn't just Gina who was on EPO. :D

So, what is difference? :D

seems like most cyclists out there are unfriendly *******s. i wave or nod my head to most other riders i see and most just look at me and look back ahead of them. come on guys, it doesn't take much to wave back. you're not that cool.

Too funny Dave I was telling my wife the same thing. Damn bike snobs. This is another reason I am starting to like riding SART early in the morning. We leave at 6am and there is no one out there except for a few older gents (walking) that promptly say "good morning".

Over here in SD things are pretty good. I get lots of waving/nodding initiations & returns, esp when I'm riding solo. I guess it's harder to tell when the other is riding in a group?

I nod to everyone but I really have to stop. I nod so much that I get dizzy every now and then!

I guess they'll have to settle for a 'lil lift of the fingers' peace sign!:D

all I do is lift a few fingers in an effort to wave and hold the bars at the same time. It works:D If I nod too much, my glasses will fall LOL

Careful which fingers get lifted...don't want the meaning misconstrued :P
