OK, so Cool Breeze is on the 18th and lots of people are signed up. Thing is, I will be travelling on that date, so I am left without a SoCal organized century option for August.

Would anyone be interested in a BF century on on the Aug. 4th-5th or Aug 11th-12th weekends? I am open to suggested routes. Or do I have to ride <sniff> alone?

Drive all the way up to Marin, and you'll have plenty of choices ... Marin Century, Mt. Tam Century, heck go for it all, and do the Mt. Tam Double ... it's only 15,000 feet of climbing

The Heated Pie Ride?
I'd do it. :D

I knew you would say that. :p

With my son in UC Berkeley, I have been driving back and forth more times this year than I can count. Not that I wouldn't enjoy the company of Nor Cal folk, but I would really like an option closer to home.

Maybe you should be riding up there and back a few times:rolleyes:

In August? You've ridden harder rides, but I would think the Pie route would be blistering that time of year. If you start early enough getting up Palomar would be OK but the rest would be melting hot.

You've done the rides but can you handle the pie?

You're on. I'll do it if you do it. There - did that sound infantile enough?

Not really. You should have added a na-na-nee-na-na if you were going for infantile. Or a "bite me," or "Your Momma!"

I'm a bit slower than that. Maybe 17mph for 50 miles on the coast , but more like 15-16 on a century.

My April 21 Pie Ride time was 7 hours and 53 minutes.

Pie Ride in August? After today's experience with a very hilly inland ride in the middle of summer, I'd pass on that! Come to think of it, riding the ride in September with Santa Ana winds was bad enough. (Admittedly, going at it solo didn't help things.)

Agreed. Apple Pie is best served cold. I'll hold out for a Thanksgiving edition.

This will not be the Pie ride. Grumpy was just being subversive. The question is, are there any relatively scenic routes that won't be excessively hot in August? I don't mind sticking to the coast for part of the ride, but ideally some hills and greenery would be good too.

Last year's Thanksgiving weekend Pie ride was great! I sure wouldn't mind doing that again.

For August, especially if picking a date so far out, without a weather forecast, I'd probably stick to a coastal route. I learned today that picking inland routes with potentially scorching temperatures is just asking for misery.

11th or 12th maybe, parhaps, possibly. But somewhere that isn't broiling hot?

before we all get excited about how fast i might be...why don't we figure out what everyone considers Torrey pines hill....i go from the last road leaving the parking lot to the stop light at the top right past the blinking light.

Anywho...i vote for the second weekend of August...really want to finally meet some of you guys and gals..!!!

Yep, that's it.

BTW - 6:25 puts you in the fast camp. Check out the results of the last San Diego Bicycle Club hill time trail held in March at TP.

Personally I am happy to do it under 9:00

OK, since ME bailed on doing a century with me next Saturday, I am reviving this thread.

Here is the proposal -

Sunday August 12th.
Start from my house in La Jolla
Go north into Rancho Santa Fe and back to La Jolla along the coast - this is more or less the SDBC "B" ride. About 50 miles.
Go south and do a loop around San Diego Bay, including a ferry crossing, and back to my house, possibly with a Mt. Soledad climb thrown in. About another 50 miles.
BBQ at Chez Indolent

If there is interest I will start a new thread. If there's not <sniff :( sniff> I will ride by myself .

Happytime
07-30-07, 12:40 PM
I'd be into that. Even if I have to work in the morning, I'll still be leaving from Del Mar and might be able to do part of the ride... or al of the eats!

What kind of time frame are ya lookin' at, Dan?

jschen
07-30-07, 02:05 PM
Definitely sounds like fun. I'd be in at least for the eats, and very likely for the ride.

I'll join in as well. 1 week before prep ride for Cool Breeze. :)

Mt Soledad after mile 50 will be difficult for me. I guess I should try it once before this ride to get familiar with the road.

I said "possibly" :p

If we did it, we would go up Nautilus, not Via Capri.

I would not throw in Soledad at the end. If we do it, it will be around mile 50 or so.
