Texas - Riding groups in Austin???

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

New cyclist here. Just wanted to see if anyone new of any riding groups in Austin that would be good for beginners. My wife and I are just starting out and wanted to get our feet wet with a riding group. Thanks in advance!

I think Austin Cycling Assoc has some beginner rides ... at the very least they would be able to direct you to the appropriate place if you contact them.

Ditto on the Austin Cycling Association. You don't have to be a member to participate in their rides (helmets are required), but you have to join to download their maps. Pick up a copy of Southwest Cycling News (the ACA publication) at just about any area bike shop. Every issue contains a calendar of upcoming rides, including ACA rides, with general descriptions. Through the ACA, you'll be able to meet like-minded and similarly capable area riders with whom you can create and arrange your own rides and groups. I ride with a couple of groups on Saturdays and Sundays, and I belong to both the ACA and the Violet Crown Sports Association, which is primarily a racing/competitive club. Our rides tend to be a little more strenuous than what you might be looking for. But Austin has a huge cycling community, and you'll be able to hook up somehow with some group.
Welcome!

What part of town are you in? If you're just getting into it, I think the veloway down south is a great place to work on building technique and time in the saddle in a safe and sane environment.

I am in south Austin, and my wife and I have been going to the veloway the past few weeks. It has been great thus far. I think we are going to start riding in the neighborhoods west of Mopac from the veloway as well.
I just wanted to get into a group so I could be around others more experienced and get some good info/feedback from people more experienced than I.

You can also join the Circle C Riding Club. They have rides going out all the time. I am a member of ACA and think it is great! Nice rides every weekend, and members of all levels.
