A big hello to everybody here at BF.
Just stumbled across these forums earlier this week while looking for a good community for road/mtb.
I'm 20 years old, born and raised in Tucson, AZ, and attending school in Flagstaff. This means I'm in Tucson for the toasty summer months, and Flag for the freezing winter (It's all backwards eh?).
I've been casually riding bikes for over ten years, but haven't taken a serious interest until this past year. Bikes I've owned in the past have been cheap mountain bikes (< $100), not intended for any real trail riding. So last December (06) I decided to buy a new mountain bike, and ended up going with a Specialized Rockhopper, which I decided would be a good entry level bike for myself. In January of this year, a friend convinced me to compete in our first triathlon together. I agreed, and eventually bought a used road bike to prepare. I found a '98 Cannondale Saeco for $250 on Craigslist, which is certainly no stallion, but a good bike for me to start out with (with relatively nice, Ultegra, components).
I put a lot more miles on my mountain bike, but I'll be riding the Tour de Tucson this fall so I'm looking to start preparing for that.
Otherwise, I'm into hiking, running, Halo2, and programming (Java/Python). I'm studying Electrical Engineering and currently working at a small semiconductor diagnostic facility for the summer.
I'm hoping to learn a lot from these forums, in terms of training exercises (and possibly proper eating habits as well, if that kind of thing is on here), bike maintenance, part selection, and a better general understanding of my bicycle. All in good company, of course.
