Road Bike Racing - Anybody else race at Vacaville?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I did the Cat 5 race. I managed to avoid the crashes and hung onto the back of the front group. I think I finished around 20th. I was signed up to do the 35+ 4/5 race immediately after, but I didn't think I could go up that little hill 16 more times. All in all it was a nice race: good volunteers, technical course, and a nice cafe/bakery 20m from the start/finish line.
Anybody else?
I was all packed and ready to go, but I woke up at 6 and decided not to. I really regret not going. There were multiple crashes in the 4/5's race?

No, but I did grow up in Vacaville. I remember riding up Browns Valley Road all the time to a friends house on my specialized hard rock (with GRIP SHIFT BABY). That was back when that part of Vacaville was basically cut off from the rest of the city by 4 miles of road. Just thought I would share.

There were at least two. The first one was on a pretty tight chicane where it went 90 degrees left and then 45 degrees right. I saw two guys on the ground and another about to land on top of the pile when I got by. Then about 2 or 3 laps later a couple of guys went down on the straightest, widest part of the course. Don't know what happened there.
And then, there was a fall involving 3 guys at the start of the 35+ 4/5 race. I think it was a missed clip-in.

I plan on riding it next year. I also plan to do the early bird crits next year too. I volunteered last year and had a great time. That hill is a heartbreaker after a dozen laps, isn't it? I've been using it to warm up before club rides.

It really is. The first couple of times up I thought "this isn't so bad..." (especially since all my "hill training" involves parking garages and freeway overpasses), and then it seemed to get steeper and longer. 10 more times up and it might as well have been Mt. Ventoux.

Yep. Fun race. Might not want to do a three hour training ride the day before if they have it again. And see my UFC post for some of the action.

I did the 4/5 also but was there to help out a teammate and chase a prime or two. The second crash in the 4/5 race was my teamate. A guy got twitchy and swerved into him and took them both out. After that I really didn't have the motivation to ride hard as I was spent from leesville the day before.
Reno Wheelmen? I saw those jerseys and thought "those guys aren't even going to think of this as a bump!"

OUCH. I needn't worry. I will never get past cat 5.
