Checking on logistics for headgear. For the follicular-challenged blokes, are there any issues about getting sunburned where the sun shines through the helmet vents? If so, what is recommended to be (comfortably?) worn under the helmet?
Also, would what is recommended for preventing scalp sunburns also be good for keeping sweat from rolling down and into your eyes? Is sweating a big deal as far as interfering with vision?

Yikes, nalax49 and I were on the same wavelength ... I guess we have the same ... lack of ... hairstyle.
Please allow me to pull the plug on this message, but I'm requesting advice about scalp sunburning and sweat-in-eye issues to be given in nalax49's original post. It would help to get tips on what to wear, and where to get them.

Get a white Nike skullcap and all your worries about those issues are ended. I'm bald as a cue ball, a heavy head sweater and wear glasses to boot. The skullcap is the best piece of bike wear I have found, way ahead of padded shorts. Not that the padded shorts are bad, rather the skullcap is that good. Absorbs sweat never letting it run across my face or drip on my glasses, evaporative cooler, comfortable under the helmet, no sunburn worries, nice to rinse out with cold water and put back on mid-ride, and easy to find in most any athletic clothing store. And I put it on clean at the start of every ride. Skullcaps rule.

. . . or an old fashioned cycling cap!
Cycling skullcaps do it for me. Headsweats (http://www.headsweats.com/) is the more popular brand, but I'm a fan of SweatVac (http://dowrap.com/). Their Ventilator model is super on the hottest of days. I also have some of the regular skull caps and the bandana style too. Their Winter Beanie kept my noggin warm all through last winter.

Just went to the Dermatoligist for my yearly AK freeze. Result of stupidity in my youth, no hat no sunscreen. I had to learn the hard way.
Now I ride with a "Buff" under my helmet. The "Buff" is a tube open on both ends, made of a material that wicks the sweat and drys fast. I got my first one at the Great Western Bike Rally , in Paso Robles, from the "Buff" lady. I have about 10 now. Lots of designs and they work for me. No seames and they can be used in a number of ways. I pull mine down oven my ears to keep the sun off and the wind out. [The "Buff" lady can use them as a tube top] Google "Buff" and see what you can find. They should be about $15.

Halo Headbands skullcap will keep the sweat out of your eyes. I use a Headsweats Shorty.

Being follicle challenged and a profuse sweater myself, I like to wear a headsweat bandanna style headband under my helmet. It also keeps the dome from getting burnt. And since I use no sunscreen above my eyes I don't have to worry about having it run into my eyes either.

Yeah my wife complains about my lack or hairstyle. Wait till she sees the cabbage leaf...
I just tell her tanlines come with the biking.
Thanks for the tips here and on the other post.
I ordered a sweatvac. They have lots of colors, free shipping and I can return it if it doesn't work.
"Above all in the summer season, the head should be protected: so that the cyclist should get used to always wearing the white cap (even under the helmet) in order to avoid sunstroke. In days of blazing sun, the head should be further protected either with a cabbage leaf placed under the cap or by moving back the visor or the latter to create a large area of shadow on the most exposed and delicate part of the head, namely, the cerebellum."

I'm not bald but I do cut my hair SHORT. :D I've just started using a headsweats skullcap. I don't like the way it looks (reminds me of a do-rag) but it works. It soaks up sweat and keeps my head from burning.
Another follicly challenged here.
After getting a pretty bad sunburn through my helmet last summer (plus another ride that I rode with my eyes closed because of sweat in my eyes), I tried the Halo Protex

It's worked great for me.

I have the vent shape burn if I don't wear a skull cap. I use one of this whenever I ride.

+100. If you flip the bill down, the sweat runs down the bill and drips off of it. Never gets in your eyes. The guy who invented the cycling cap was one smart dude.

A bandanna folded in half as a triangle works just fine for me. Headsweats are good, too. But I mostly wear bandannas.

I've never tried the fancy bands, etc. I do have a couple of cheap cycling caps given to me by bike shops I stopped to visit during a couple of my rides. For my money, they work great. I'm not a burner, so I don't worry too much about sun through my helmet, but I do sweat . . . and having salt running into your eyes, then, trying to wipe your eyes with the back side of your palms or your amrs (both also very salty) just doesn't cut it for me.
I guess I don't look so stylish with the bill of my cap peeking out from under my helmet, but, these days, riding for me is about comfort and enjoyment.
The bill of the cap loads up with perspiration. When I see droplets forming I duck my head slightly so that they fall away from my glasses . . . or I just take my hand and swipe it across the bill to wipe away the heavy stuff before it falls off onto my glasses.
That, for me, is far preferable to having sweat drip into my eyes. I don't wear sunscreen, so, for me, the pain when it "rains" is just the salt.
Happy cycling.

I apply # 50 sunscreen to the top of my head , and all other exposed skin .

Sweat in the eyes. That's my problem. I sure hope that you're right because I ordered a couple of Halo sweat bands today. They claim they don't drip into your eyes. I sure hope they're right.

Skullo, judging by your driver's license photo that you're using as an avatar, I highly recommend you start wearing a cycling cap when riding...

The picture was taken before I lost all the weight. I look much better now!
