Looks like the Saratoga 12/24 is this weekend. Anyone going? I'm mentioning this as some folks in the NE were curious as to the viability of a recumbent in a hilly race. Looks like there will be a few Bacchetta riders on this one. If you're close, you may want to check it out.

Hearing back from the guys that John Schlitter went 460.5 miles for a new course record, on a hilly NE course. He beat the old record of 450ish set by the BMB record holder. Not bad for for just completing RAAM. :)

I was there.
It was pretty cool. We had a pretty good day, as far as weather this year. A little windy during mid-day, and a little rain overnight, but not bad. I would not really call it a "hilly" course. There is really only one relatively short hill, and a bunch of rollers. After a couple of hundred miles though, that one hill starts to get bigger and steeper it seems.
Schlitter was very impressive, as was Larry Graham, on those damn recumbents. Funny looking things, but real fast.
A lot of records fell on Saturday at Saratoga. If I heard right, the female 24 hour record fell, the male 24 hour record fell(probably because the guy had to chase bent bikes all day), the overall mileage record fell(Schlitter), and several age group records fell.
I wimped out and did the 12 hour race. I think I ended up with 220.3 miles.
It was a nice day for everyone. Some real neat bikes showed up. Lots of comradery. Everyone seemed pretty happily thrashed afterwards. Lots of people talking about PBP coming up.
