Southern California - Need recommendations for long cycling tights for women...

I'm looking for some long cycling tights for my girlfriend. She doesn't/won't wear shorts (not yet anyways) so i'm looking for some tights that aren't geared to cold weather riding. Any suggestions? Knickers may also be a possibility. Nothing too expensive preferably, just something that'll be better than sweat pants or jeans. :)

Most cycling tights are made for cold weather riding. Some have built in chamois, others don't. She'll probably find more of a fabric selection if looking for knickers. I'd point her to the Team Estrogen (http://www.teamestrogen.com) web site. They have all the descriptions and sizing to help her out and if she has any questions, the staff is there. They're very good about taking calls and giving apparel advice. There is also a section on their forum to answer clothing questions.

Personally, I would find it way too hot to wear knickers in this weather. If she's uncomfortable about wearing spandex, there's all kinds of "skorts" and stuff like that they sell.

Yeah, she doesn't like having her skin exposed... At least her legs. I don't want her to pass out again from overheating (well it was a combination of over heating, not eating breakfast/lunch, and not being used to riding). I think i can convince her to at least go with knickers though. :)

Is she worried about burning her legs? I'm super fair-skinned and I wear a thick zinc paste on my face,neck, arms and upper legs/knees which pretty much blocks all sun. I also wear Bullfrog 50 spf sport, which helps. Yes, I look ridiculous, but I'd rather keep my skin as nice as I can as I age (not to mention skin cancer free!), so I'm willing to look like clown-face while on the bike to do it. The zinc brand I use is Headhunter nose and lips and it can be found (along with Bullfrog) at Sport Chalet.

But hey, i already got her to purchase a bike and start riding so i'm doing what i can to keep her comfortable so she keeps riding. :)
