If you consider the fact that the hubs are probably equal in quality to superbe/superbe pro and that this stuff is NOS then it doesn't seem that out of line for someone who is putting together a show piece original stumpjumper.

Yeah the thread title is misleading, the ad is for the full wheel set.

I traded my 1969 Schwinn stingray with top tube shifter for a 1998 SPIN wheelset, carbon fiber with ceramic coating on the brake walls, I needed them to complete the look of my 1998 K2 ProFlex 4500, I wanted the wheelset, other guy wanted the bike :) A fair deal to me is when both people are happy with the end product :) be it a sale or trade, as long as we're both happy :D

Sorry, the link would have made it more clear. But the seller was touting the tires, not the wheelset. I think they were Sansin hubs laced to Araya rims? Additionally, they weren't NOS, but they were near NOS.

I was simply curious what people pay for vintage tires. I imagine they could get expensive as tires don't fare as well as steel or aluminum.

I'm building a 90's Nishiki MTB and have a 88 Nishiki Ariel, so I'm into the MTB thing. NO I would not pay $400, or $100 for a set of wheels with tires.

Um, I wouldn't pay jack for them. Tires are consumable items like brake pads, cables, housing etc. I try to find new ones that keep the original style intact like gum walls and such but I ride my bikes so I have no illusions that the original air will still be in the original tires. My bikes are for riding not museum pieces. My 72 Bottecchia is a work of art (IMO) but when it came time for new brake pads it got the plain black rubber ones you can buy at the LBS not NOS Universals. Same with the tires which are modern Vittoria tubulars not original Clements or whatever they were.
