Which do you use, and why?
Why do I ask? I had been using Heart Rate as the recording control for a long time. I can't remember why. Thinking I might have some influence over HR-related data dropouts, I switched to Speed the other day. My habit is to grab the PT data with PowerAgent and "Merge" all of the individual 'ride-ettes' that show up in the list, then use the resulting data to upload into TrainingPeaks.
I guess it's obvious but it seems like there is quite a difference in the TrainingPeaks analysis (CP #s, probably MMP as well) when you have Speed instead of HR for recording control, especially on a ride with a lot of stops (traffic signals and such). I don't think my fitness improved that much, but a recent ride showed everything longer than CP30 *way* higher than I was expecting based on my PE of the ride. Even some shorter CPs seemed higher than I thought they should be.
What are others' experiences with this? Have I screwed up? Should I go back to HR?
