Classic & Vintage - Pictures from my retro reunion century ride

We had our reunion century today. We could not plan a camping/touring trip due to flights and family but we had a great time.
Myself and two friends rode a 1300km tour 25 years ago and this was our way to celebrate.
All the old bikes worked great. These are not exotic rides just middle ground equipment that was salvaged and refurbished for the ride. We didn't own anything exotic back then so this assortment of Raleigh's and a Norco was very appropriate. My Criterium was fitted with the original panniers it carried back in 82'.
Anyway, here we are in 1982

Done and done. 109 km's total and beautiful weather, although it was hot.

This ride was about the people on the old bikes, not the bikes themselves.
Two of the guys actually taped extra bottles to their bikes as I didn't have enough cages for the hot weather.
I am very proud of my son. He did two big climbs and made it back under his own power!

Well, time makes fools of us all.
And I was 17 at the time, and maybe I aged poorly.
The 14 yr old had some trouble getting up after we were done.
Actually, he spent a lot of time laying on the road.

That is me, the old man himself.
But I wish I was 17 again! My friend Bruce was only 16 at the begining of the original tour. He had his 17th birthday 2 days into the ride.

My buddy and I went on a bike-camping tour of the Finger Lakes in New York state. It was cut rather short when we checked into camp the first night, and they almost booted us out because I was only 17. We didn't plan the necessary funds very well either, so we probably would have had to ride home the next day anyway. :o

I think I had $30 in my pocket for the entire trip. Ray, the 3rd rider missing from the original pic only had $20 or so.
Big funds were not needed for THE adventure of a young mans life.

I noticed little has changed in 25 years! When your tired your tired...........

We all have somehow.
Two of the guys are triathletes. I'm the only "part time" cyclist.
One of the guys on this trip does some kind of California 24hr mountain bike relay thing. Sounds gruelling whatever that is.
Now I will have to part with some of these old bikes. I don't have room for all of them.
It was a lot of fun searching for them and refurbishing these old rides. It brought back a lot of memories.
The road we did the century on is the same road that lead us north to the Canadian Shield 25 yrs ago.
The spot where we had a break is near the same spot that we took our 1st break back in 82'.
It was a lot of fun. Actually, the reunion ride was planned on the same date as the original.

I have now decided to keep most of them, I have an understanding wife.
The Norco is gone and the Raliegh Super Grand Prix and Raleigh Grand Prix will be kept for my two sons.
I am keeping the Raleigh Criterium, Raleigh Olympian, Apollo Triathlon and Sekine for myself. Along with my Nishiki Continental.
But I still have all the other "non qualifiers" that I collected along with these. These are the Raleigh Sprite, Raleigh Folding Twenty, Austrian Iverson and the Cambio Rino.
I will be selling the Nishiki 12 speed as its to large for me. The Suteki will also have to go as we have 4 mountain bikes that need space.
All this makes my head hurt..........
