Foo - What was the dumbest BF Thread EVER?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

You will need a few days to get through this one, but it is well worth it. Some of the best PhotoShops from FGSS ever. Plus, it's really dumb!

It had potential, but now has a distinct "in line at the clinic" atmosphere.

since it created the pop culture phenomenon of "setting output power to 400w", I third slvoid's nomination.

It's a toss up between Merton's "how much sand do I need to soundproof this room" and Slvoid's "I accidently used my GF's sparkly glitter but I like it" threads.

I'm sorry to hear it, Allen, but given the cast of characters, I was afraid that would happen when the forum was created...

But isn't riding an electric bike sort of.........cheating??
I haven't done the slightest bit of research on the subject, but considering the size and weight an electric motor (plus batteries!) would have to be to drive a bicycle with a person on it, the bike would be made so heavy as to be barely usable as a pedal-powered bike anymore, much like the mopeds of old.

We have these (http://cleverchimp.com/products/stokemonkey/) around here on Xtracycles. They're really cool. I talked to the woman in that vid on the web page with the 2 kids at the Pedalpalooza kick-off parade, and she really appreciates the power-assist while stopped at a red on an uphill with the 2 kids, 4 bags of groceries and a mob of cranky motorists behind her. Peace of mind...
There were 5 Xtracycles with Stokemonkeys that I counted at the parade. They were all child & heavy cargo haulers. I can see the point of such usage, myself. Allen's got a pretty sweet e-bike/Xtracycle rig, and it looks like he hauls a great deal of stuff with it.

My wife is interested in a little assist. She would like to ride with me but is a rank beginner. The tandem is great, but she is ready to go solo. We have a VERY nasty hill on the way home - she will probably need something for all her life to do it. In fact so far I am the only person around who can make it up the hill without stopping and in truth, it is never easy.
My feeling is an assist is better than nothing - leave being a purist with the racers. Oops - sorry they believe in winning through better chemistry it seems... ;)

The range is more than I would have guessed, as well, so it looks like one could use it pretty much all of the time, eliminating the need to drag it around by pure pedal power.
The price is steep, but considering the intent is to replace a car, it's probably not too bad. Might even be fun!

Surly will supposedly be selling a frame specifically designed for the Xtracycle system starting this fall. Clearance for big, fat tires, disc brake compatibility, can take a suspension fork, all that fun stuff. Should be interesting.

That is my heavy hauler/cheeter. I can carry more with it than I can in my Miata by a long stretch.
Yeah, the ebike forum has a tight knit group of myspace rejects that makes it hard to find any real info in there without needing to shower afterwards. Oh well, at least it's there.

It is very interesting. There's a prototype Big Dummy rolling around Portland even as I type. :) I understand they're making the frames so they can be 'Stoked.

I vote for the thread where Merton wondered how to build a sound-proof box in his room so that he could study. Called for lots of lumber an about a thousand pounds of sand or some such. Right around that time, he disappeared, all that sand must've collapsed and smothered him...
Or the thread where he wanted to clean dirt or crud out of a metal sphere or some such? Can't recall the details.
