Yesterday I saw on one of those little time & temp signs, coming home from work at 4:45-ish, 104-degrees :eek: :eek: Did a 28-mile interval/sprint ride with regular group with a 1,000-foot climb thrown in (about 3-4 miles long) for good measure.

Today, 105-degrees coming home from work at 3:45-ish. No ride tonight. Went hard Sunday in race, yesterday's sprint session, today...off. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

How's the weather in the rest of the USA?

Been pretty nice here the last couple of days. High 80ies and lower humidity. Should get 20 or so miles in tomorrow.

I assume the thermometer was in direct sunlight. I would expect these temps in the Imperial Valley, or Death Valley, but not Santa Clarita.

The temps here are normal; low 90's with 90% humidity. That is why I get my ass out before the sun comes up. I can deal with 75'/90%

Nope...accurate temps according to weather channel (http://www.weather.com/outlook/recreation/outdoors/local/91351?lswe=91351&lwsa=Weather36HourOutdoorsCommand&from=whatwhere) (100-degrees Santa Clarita right now). BTW, Death Valley at 5:34pm is registering at 120-degrees.

While your right it a dry heat, it's also a killer. When I was stationed in Sigonella Sicily, the temps in the summer would easily get to 125 in the shade and have humidity levels as low as 25%. People would pass out from dehydration and not realize they were dying. We had one guy working in the belly of the plane almost croak on us, cause he did not want to wait for the a\c cart to be installed to blow some cool air in. He had a party to go to on the other base with a female corpsman from the hospital. When we pulled him out and resuscitated him, his core temp was 106.

I made sure to run at night and made sure I would drink a gallon of water every day. Got expensive since we had to buy our water since the Italians hadn't quite figured out that water needed to be treated before you drank it. Although expensive, I figure it was better than dying. I also had to tell the little minions that were away from mom and dad for the first time that beer was not a substitute for water.

I would much rather have the humidity as you can tell much faster that you are over heating. When I was in flight training in Pensacola in July and August, can you say friggin hot and humid, I know you can, we would purposely run along Pensacola Bay so if it went into a Black Flag period, meaning no outside activity, they would just throw you into the bay to cool you down and when your core temp came down you could finish the run to the pool to go to swin training. :D One problem with Pensacola Bay, I think every jelly fish in the Gulf of Mexico starts life there an not only do you have heat stroke\stress, you now have whelps from jelly fish stings.

Damn I miss that training, I had a blast there. Eat, run 15 miles, swim 2 miles, eat, class time, specialized water training (long term float, Helo escape, ect), specialized running (obstacle course, soft sand, ect), eat, party time. Can you find a better existence. :D

Relatively cool here today due to cloud cover, about 80° but dewpoints above 70. Uggh. Went through about 2 liters of water at work, and it was barely enough for a light standing job.

Prescott Valley, AZ, elevation 5200 ft. Today is supposed to be 103, humidity is now 4%. Now that's a dry heat. Took my ride this a.m. early to beat the blast. Phoenix is supposed to be 115 degrees today. They have heat advisories out for the southern counties of AZ.

the entire west (west of the rockies) has been in a very strong heat wave this year. Temps in utah have been in the upper 90's and low 100's since the middle of june, and we have had no rain since June 1st. just one of those years.

Got a friend lives on the Sunshine Coast not too far from you and he's complaining abut the "terrible" riding conditions as well.

Where up the sunny coast? Its a great place up there, some of the best beaches in the world. My only problem is that its not very cyclist friendly and has suffered some pretty poor civic planning over the years.

Oh I don't know, I kind of like not having to deal with snow and cold.
