We have all seen it but this is the first time I started it. I bought this for $20, not too much money for something pretty cool and I think the auction flew a bit under the radar.

Then this guy had two auctions and made some good money.

Now this guy has listed one hoping to get in on the trend.

I won one of those a while back for $5, but it was Zeus branded. The seller sent me four of them saying he wanted to get rid of them. They were all "new" in the box, but the rubber bands were so old that they snapped as soon as I pulled on them. I think they're identical to those with different printing on the box and Zeus stamped on the part.

There are plenty of those to be had for less than $10.00. Why would you pay over 10 pounds for one?

I just bought a Zeus one new in box for $2.95 from my LBS - The rubber is still good too :D

But it was a royal PITA getting it mounted on this no clearance uber modern italian seat.

Would have been a piece of cake to put it on the old Team Pro saddle though. Now I need one of those old school tubular tire long plastic bags to wrap the ture up in...

There's a big difference in the quality and key words in those auctions. "granfondo05" put uber effort into making a very nice presentation. Lots of clear well lit and detailed photos. The other two made no mention of Campy either.

NOS with a good box is worth considerably more than old and used with no box.

Really, where? Let me know and I'll be happy to flip them. I think the auctions prove many people are willing to pay for a Vittoria tire holder.

This is true. My point was that when someone sees something go for good money, they are likely to list there own item to get on the bandwagon.

Also, mine may not have been advertised as NOS, the seller could have done so. There are absolutely no signs of use, no stripped bolts or screw slots, no chipped chrome, no rub marks on the rubber, it's perfect. I don't know if it was a mistake or the seller is honest (e.g. it was mounted once). Either way, I don't need to spend $35 on a box.

The cheaper ones I've seen are Zeus - really the same thing, but with a different name stamped on them. bananabrain had quite a supply of them a couple months ago for $5.95 plus shipping.

That thing is nifty. I just bought a Zeuss version for my Razesa from Banana Brain for $11.59 including shipping. Of course an old toe strap would do, but the Zeus one seemed appropriate for the Razesa. I can't see why anyone would want to pay $50+ for the Vittoria one.

It's not always just about function, sometimes it just has to be done for style :)

That's understood, but for something that's almost identical except for the name stamped on the metal, and which is almost entirely hidden under the saddle and behind a tire, the Zeus is more than good enough.

Stupid question here: Whatever happened to just using an old toeclip strap to affix a spare tub to the seat rails? Like a charm, it woiked.

I don't think anything happened TOO it (OK maybe clinchers happened) but this is just a slick little dealie. they also made cordura bags in the 80s for the same purpose. My dad has an Eclipse one.

True enough. I was referring more about the comment that an old toe clip would do.

I prefer the bag, you can still get them JANDD makes them.
with a tubular bag your tire is protected from the elements and a whole lot cleaner when you
need to use that spare. of course a folded up newspaper around the tubular in conjunction with
either the carrier or extra toe strap works too.
