Hi.
We're riding STP in one day -
and plan to ride back to Seattle in two days. Is there a route different/better than just reversing the STP course? Any suggestions on where to stay along the way? Any great places to eat?
:-)

That's quite a task.
While I'm sure that there are alternate roads you could possibly take, it's hard to imagine you'd find a better route without going way out of your way.
I've ridden half of the route backwards - Centralia to Seattle - and it had a completely different feel in terms of scenery. Plus the wind was in my face that day.
Good luck.

Planet U,
Here is an alternate (http://escapevelocipede.blogspot.com/2006/12/portland-to-seattle.html) route compliments of M. Wolfe.

We don't necessarily mind going out of the way...
We'd even consider three days for the return if you had something in mind!
Alternately,
we're considering starting in Hood River, Oregon, and taking three days to ride to Seattle; then doing STP in a day, then returning to Hood River. Ideas about that?

original idea of alternate route back from portland-
I'd ride 30, castlerock, napavine, then head up more west from centralia, up old highway 99se, past Mima Mounds natural area, thru Capitol Forest, brushing past Olympia, then on to shelton and bremerton and across the ferry back to seattle.
very senic riding.
