Classic & Vintage - I Love My Super Sport

I love this bike. It's tough as nails and rides beautifully. Low maintenance- good ride. My kind of machine.

Included the second picture for the benefit of those who are always complaining about the weight of these bikes. They ain't heavy if you're a MAN! ;) Still got the original crank and kickstand too.

I doubt that too many Wal Mart bikes would be around when they are that old.....

The early 1970s Super Sport was Schwinn's stealth/sleeper bike. It looked like a Varsinental but offered significantly higher performance because of the CrMo frame and the aluminum rims. Alot of us snobs dislike that Ashtabula one-piece steel crank, but it is the only crankset which can be completely overhauled and rebuilt in 10 minutes using simple, common hand tools, and I have never heard of anyone breaking an Ashtabula crank whilst climbing or sprinting (not fun).

Rick, you are the MAN! I hope you had a great 4th of July ride. I actually had the daughter and wife come along for a 25 miler on a Rails to Trail ride. :)

I love mine too!! It looks like a piece of Turquoise jewelry, and rides like a Cadillac. It now has the randonneurs back on it, and I'm considering a 3 piece swap this weekend to drop a little weight.,,,,BD

Lift 'em high, Super Sporters!

Had a great ride today, Bob... we live in the county and I forgot to put my ID in my pocket before I left, so I just tooled around these country roads close to home, where people know me. I usually end up riding alone, but I'd like to find a riding buddy in the neighborhood.

This is a funny thread. I wonder what the Super Sport lifting record is? Eric (Sierra) has multiples (I'm pretty sure). Let's see a pic with three or four lifted! (Two in one hand, one in another, and another with your leg!). :p

If we can get some pics of some different lifts or a video of the Super Sport workout, we could market this thing!

I have a sweet tooth and need candy--- candy red to be exact. Why the paint? The paint on El Twe's frame was not in the best of shape and the stem was stuck in the fork steering tube. To no avail it would not come out! I traded Sierra for a replacement fork but it was blue (but with chrome socks :) ), so off to Dr.D's they flew the beginning of June.

Those tires look like the 27 x 1-3/8" knobbies I had on the UO-8 until I wore them out. I am happy enough with my new Vittoria 27 x 1-1/4" road tires, but it was kind of fun having knobbies which worked quite well on multitrack trails.

A Nervar Star or a TA Professional crankset would be period-correct, and either would look great on that bike. A French crankset would also fit with the Schwinn's French drivetrain.
