Introductions - Hello from Oregon

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hello all: I'm getting back into cycling after a better than 15 year absence. I'm 45 6'3 and 228lbs I was up to near 250lbs at one point. I've made some major changes in my diet and lifestyle and want to incorporate cycling into the mix. I bought a Gary Fisher Montare about 2 years ago but never really rode the bike, in two years I put 47 miles on it. I still have it and picked up a Trek 2100 road bike for long distance rides, ( once my cardio improves) and a Giant Cypress DX comfort/hybrid for riding with my kids who have Trek mountain bikes.
I started out with 5 mile rides and am up to 30+ my goal is to do STP (Seattle to Portland) next year. My brother and a mutual friend are planning on riding Canada to Mexico in 2009 so I had better get with the program.
I'm looking forward to meeting new friends on here as we support each other in reaching our fitness goals.

Hi Steve! I see you're in Gresham. Do you ride the Springwater much? Are you one of those unfortunate souls affected by the I-205 path closure 'cause of the Max construction?
I usually work in downtown Portland, but sometimes I ride from where I live in inner SE to work at an office at SE Division and SE 172nd. One time I got chased by a bunch of methheads. That was a wild commute!

Hello Steve, I thought I recognised your name from the Clydesdales forum. As I mentioned before, STP is a great goal, but it gets filled very quickly. Getting a place to stay for the two day version can be problematic, so you want to book accomodations as early as possible.
Welcome to BF!

Hi Donnamb
Yes, I've been riding the Springwater corridor, usually either starting out at the river west end and heading east, or taking off from the Gresham Main Street park, either ride, is great, tho the mall gets crowded much of the time.
I'm slowly starting to work hills into my workout routine and still getting used to the clipless pedals (SPD's) that are on my Dual Sport and Road bike. I'm having so much fun, I'm thinking of getting a mountain bike and hitting the trails.
Hope to see you around sometime!!
Did you go on the night ride last night?
