Donna and I met up with a prev.co-worker and went for a short (12 mile) ride around Louisville today. What a difference a week makes, or maybe we just ran into people who really like to ride. We went into the city and rode around some older areas, saw lots of older, interesting architecture, and through some older original neighborhoods. Saw several cyclists out doing the same. And it seemed everyone waved, nodded, or otherwise acknowledged each other. And no "toot of the angry horn" either! My friend was headed for a cookout at his brothers, or we probably would have doubled the mileage-felt as good when we stopped as we did when we started, but we had obligations as well, so. After last week's experience with rude cyclists, and drivers, sure was a nice change. Racking up miles can be fun, but you can have fun without racking up miles. (though I'll admit I wish we'd had time to rack up a few more).

There are all styles of riding.......deathgrip on the bars to cruisin' to the ice cream store. We rob ourselves by focusing on a narrow range of riding styles-- either too intimidated to go for it, or too kool to cruise around the block.

Great thinking there.

Unfortunately some people never take the time to experience the different types....they don't know what they're missing:)

One of the great advantages of getting older is that it is highly unlikely that I will win anything as a cyclist. My time for being the best at things physical is past and I really have no desire to compete against my age bracket.

What I enjoy is using the bike as a guilt free exploration device. I can go for miles and miles and miles checking out areas that I would use gas and destroy suspension getting too. Also, during this, I have every excuse to stop into whatever food place looks interesting to fill up.

Guilt free exploring, guilt free refueling, guilt free eating - what could be better?
