Introductions - Hi from New York

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Hi everyone!
I'm an avid biker for the last few years - pleasure riding and for exercise. I thought I was in pretty good shape but on the local trails, some of you fly pass me. I'm getting more serious about biking and will hopefully learn something from you guys.
See ya on the trails!

Hello Tina--what kind of bike/s have you got? Are you doing MTB or road cycling there in Wantagh? Check out the Northeast regional forum to see how many gazillions of Bike Forums members are on LI :) .
Welcome to BF!

Hi East !
I just found the Northeast region and posted already! :-)
I have a Diamondback Mountain Bike but it's about 6-7 yrs old. I don't do much mountain biking (mostly paved trails) so I'm wondering if I might be better off with a different one. Since mine is a few yrs old, I was thinking of getting a new one anyway.

I had a lower end Diamondback MTB about that age as well. It met an untimely end deep in the bowels of a mountain ravine :( . I got an old hardtail Fuji Thrill as a replacement. I have to say, even though the Fuji is old school, I like it better than the Diamondback. So your plan to replace it probably isn't a bad idea. Do consider swapping out the knobby tyres for slicks first, though. It can make quite a bit of difference to your speed, and you may find that it works much better that way.
