New album coming...

Cue the "Metallica Sucks/no YOU suck" posts. Metallica seems to be the band that gets these all the time.

I will definitely pick up the album and give it a listen.

IMHO, its hard for a band to keep the exact sound it had from early years to later... members change, and doing the same stuff gets old.

Everything in this post is accurate. They say that the new album will be close to the Black Album in tone. Lars tuned his snare this time.

Both you and Metallica suck.

A strong point, for sure.

Lars rules...don't know what he rules..but he rules!

Lars tuned his snare? Why start now?

IME, Rob Trujillo will make or break Metallica this go around. St. Anger was such a drastic departure, I still don't like it all that much. There are so many little gems that don't add up to a good album. The production was like Bob Rock 'wanted to try something neato' on every track. So glad they went with Rick "dude can make a can of horse piss sound good" Rubin with this one.

However, I think it goes without saying that having a HipHop, funk, punk pioneer as a producer will dramatically change Metallica. Fingers crossed.

/Still miss Jason.
//Rob is a flippen bass god, and I hope that James and Lars don't bury him.
///Longs for the days of And Justice for All, where Lars actually used his other bass drum and wasn't the 2-4 king he became under Bob Rock.

When I first listened to St. Anger, I knew from the start that something was happening within the band.

SA is easier to listen to after you read up on what happened to everyone prior to and during the recording. SKOM was painful to watch, but it answered a lot of questions about the "new sound" (that I didn't really care for).

I cannot believe that part in SKOM where they offered Rob the job.

"We're ready to offer you a one million dollar signing bonus"

I seriously sharted when that happened. Then to see him just jamming around in his bedroom with a little amp learning all the songs...I could feel his joy and awe.

I'll loved both Suicidal Tendencies/Infectious Grooves...Rob gets mad respect from me.

*plugs his ears and goes LA LA LA LA LA until he can get home and throw Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, And Justice For All, and the black album into the CD changer*

You forgot MUYA... er, renamed KEA after the record label forced Cliff to rename it.

I'd just like to ask; has Metallica ever done a song I might have heard?

(I quit buying music about '83)

There goes jsharr, beating around the bush again.

So remind me, who's Metallica? It's the band Ozzy plays for, right?

I can't see or Hear Metallica anymore after the napster cartoons that had James as a frankenstein and Lars as a baby. Anyone have a link to those cartoons?

Master of Puppets was my favourite. Metallica went downhill from Black onwards.

I got into them with Justice. Super hyped on the arrangements, meter changes, lyrics, tempos, and overall musical virtuosity of their compositions. It was like they were taking all that Cliff aspired to, and ran with it.

Then the Black album, which wasn't all that, saddened me. It was a thoroughly calculated and processed effort aimed at mega-superstardom.

...who can blame them? It worked, very well.

Justice was good.. but sorely lacked some proper bass lines.

Agreed...they were there, just so badly mixed. The first of many neuterings of Jason Newsted.

They said SA would sound like the early stuff. I didn't know they meant before they recorded an album...cause it sure don't sound like Kill Em All or Ride the Lightning...

Huge Fan...SA was a HUGE disappointment
