Introductions - Hi from across the pond
Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hey I'm Luke, I'm a casual cyclist, normally a mountain biker due to living in the country, but moving to London and looking to build up a fixie to get my bike fix and to get around.

Hello Luke, how casual is casual? Someone looking at a fixed gear doesn't sound like a 'casual' cyclist to me :) .
Welcome to BF!
Many welcomes, Luke! :)

well i used to cycle a min of 6 miles a day, but then my bike broke (had a fun little incident where the quick release on the front wheel loosened and when I lifted my front wheel over a pothole the forks lifted but the wheel didn't, anywho i was fine but it completely buckled my forks) and having just passed my driving test i couldn't afford to fix it. thus just used my spare (a rusting little MTB) but it wasnt as much fun so just ride it occasionally. Thus Casual (but not really)

It sounds as if we need to get you more motivated, then! Actually, living in London is probably enough to get you motivated--avoids having to use the tube with the hoards of tourists who don't know how to pronounce 'Leicester', and also avoids having to pay congestion fees.
