I don't visit this forum much, so not sure how picky the crowd around here is :] but I just watched the Transformers last night and I really liked it. Granted, I've had a VERY soft spot for the transformers ever since I was llittle :o I guess I kinda wished the focus was more on the robots than the humans, and I was hoping to see more of the transformers characters, but still I thought it was well done, especially special-effects-wise.
Has anyone else seen it?

I saw it on Tuesday night, and I agree with your assessment. It was a fun movie, and the novelty of the robots transforming never got old. I don't usually like action movies, but I was into this one the whole way through.
And I gotta say, when all the rest of the Autobots showed up, the moment Optimus Prime transformed gave me goosebumps. It's kind of weird seeing one of your childhood cartoons come to life, especially when it's in a form that isn't quite familiar, but I have to say I was pretty impressed with what Michael Bay did with the film. Good times...

Going to see it again with my girl at the drive-in tonight.
Geeked out the first night, had to leave her behind.
Best movie i've seen for 2007. ;)

I absolutly loved the effects. Everything else sucked. Michael Bay, you have failed again!
Also there should have been much more of Optimus Prime using his sword.

I don't see movies very often and have hated the whole Transformer concept from the time my kids watched the cartoon. I gave my 9 year old nephew his choice of movies today and he chose Transformers. I went thinking I was about to waste a couple of hours and dollars of my life.
I was pleasantly surprised. The show was very fun. It is well worth the time and money to go see, even if you are not a big fan.

I had a ball at this movie, and I saw it at an "urban" theatre so there was much audience participation. It got a little cheesy at times, but overall, a real hoot. Even better was my buddy's heads-up move that Die Hard was starting immediately after in another room, so we got a double feature. Talk about your sensory overload...

Saw it for the 2nd time yesterday. I think it is one of Bay's better summer films yet. Better than Pearl Harbor or Armageddon(?) It paid perfect homage to the cartoon, such as the VW in the carlot and the use of the tow truck (Hoist), at the same time making it a movie of its own. I liked the fact that Soundwave was just a little boombox and transformed into something proportionate, and not a 25 foot robot like the cartoon.
Now that Starscream flew off(hope you stayed through the credits) and a sequel is most likely, hopefully there will be more Autobots and Decepticons to come.
Another plus was that Megatron didnt sound like a drag queen as in the cartoon.

Reasons it sucked:
1. Megatron should have an incredibly large, incredibly potent cannon attached to his arm at all times. All those gay missiles were fine for the other ones, but Megatron is a special case.
2. Bumblebee should be a freakin' Volkswagen Beetle, they could've even got away with one of the newer ones. He was always my favorite Autobot, and this whole "b!tchin' Camaro" thing just ain't working.
3. I scream, you scream, we all scream for Starscream- He needed more screen time. Also, he was voiced originally by the genius Chris Latta, who also did Cobra Commander. Well, not all that surprisingly, Latta died of a cocaine overdose (kind of adds a new dimension, don't it kiddies?) so whoever did the voice for the movie should've given him some of that cokehead magic. The only two distinctive Decepticon voices were Megatron and the boombox that sounded like one of Jerry Seinfeld's uncles. Antisemitism? :)
4. My problem with absolutely every movie Spielberg has been involved in since ET- At what point will you have enough money to produce films without such distractingly obvious examples of product placement? The abomination known as AI can't count because your stupid ass should've known you were not fit to hold Kubrick's colostomy bag in the first place.
5. The action was so "spammy" and close-up I really couldn't even tell what was going on. Hong Kong directors need to tell American directors how to film action sequences once and for all.
Things that were good about it:
1. Movies should have hot Australian chicks, for absolutely no reason, all the time. Especially if they play otherwise boring roles such as computer programmers.
2. Anthony Edwards should be in every movie made between now and the end of time.
3. Robin Williams was not in this movie at all, so far as I can tell.
4. Sam's parents were very funny.
5. I think the sequel will be a lot better.

The little boombox in the movie was actually Frenzy, which was originally the name of one of Soundwave's little cassette pals. And, you might be pleased to know that Transformers 2 has already been announced: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1055369/

Thanks for the link! Something to look forward to. I'd be very pleasantly surprised if Hot Rod was in the next movie but am not too hopeful :]
Little tiny truck turning into a gigantic robot 50* the original size. Boy that's really transforming there. So cool how they can add molecules to themselves hehe.

saw it with my son. i let him pick since it was boys night out while his sister had a slumber party.
since it was for him, i'd rate it as "meh." the best part for me was spending time with my kid and watching his reactions and excitement towards the movie.
hot chicks. definite spank material.
shaia lebouff(sp?) was annoying. there were times when i thought some of the actors weren't doing a good job of "pretending" they were actually interacting with the transformers.

It was one giant GM commercial. Somewhat entertaining but dragged on way too long. I got bored after the first hour and a half or so.
