Southeast - Group rides in the Raleigh, NC area?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

This thread is also posted in the road forums, but someone was kind enough to remind me that there is a southeast forum.

I'm new to raleigh and would like to do some group rides to become familiar with the area. I'm comfortable with any speed of riding, but prefer things on the faster side.

My bike is finally up and rolling. UPS was kind enough to damage my rear derailer hanger in the shipping process, but kind staff at The Bicycle Chain took care of me this morning.

I AM READY TO RIDE!

So far I've been able to gleam that there are a couple rides today at 6 p.m.
• Trek Store Woman's ride
• Spin Cycle Ride (Thursday B Pace)
• Apparently there's a group ride at Leesville and 580. Does anyone know anything more about this?

Are there any other rides tonight you're aware of? I'd also like to ride Friday : )

hey brian, check out www.trianglecycling.com (http://www.trianglecycling.com) for a great group of local people who talk about local rides and stuff.

also, every saturday the selma cyclepaths meet out in Clayton, east of Raleigh, for a group ride at 8am. We are up to 40+ mile rides and you will find people of all paces to ride with. Some real hammerheads out there, and some slow pokes too.

There is a recovery ride tonight leaving from Kicks which is on Leesville Rd. Its probably your best option and a good way to meet some good guys. Cliff Swanson is organizing it. Cliff is a really nice guy, I rode with him once last year.

Here's the details.

All the Gyros on the Firecracker did the metric at 20+ mph so Mike
Dalton and I decided to do the Thursday night Kicks ride tomorrow but
not at the normal 22-24 mph pace. Our pace will be less taxing.

5:45 from the Kicks station on Leesville, around the lake, pace TBD by
the group but probably in the 17-18 ballpark and no surging on the
hills (nope, none).

Anyone welcome to join.

Cliff

ditto Jay's suggestion for 07/05

If you go there, you can likely meet some Road Dogs (fast north Raliegh NCBC) group, some Gyros (not-quite-as-fast-but-still-fast north Raleigh group), and possibly more including All-Star Racing Team members, maybe some Trek/Volvo types, as well as others.

But not me -- I'm WAY too slow for that crowd.

Jay and others, thanks so much for the info. I managed to get to the group ride at Kicks (we call them Circle K's in the west) only to flat about a half hour in to the ride. My drivetrain is still giving me problems as well, so I best head over to a bike shop and try to get things straight.

Is anyone doing the rides this evening?

Is there a ride 7/31/10 in Clayton, at 8 am? I am in the area for a short time and would like to continue to get rides in. What is the distance, and the pace? Thank
