On my way to get lunch and I am at a 4 way stop (in my car) in a residential neighborhood. Car to my right arrives at the intersection at roughly the same time as me, so my intention is to let her go first. I wait a couple of seconds and she does not move. I look in her window and see her waving her hand, so i proceed into the intersection. Lo and behold, what she was doing was waving across 2 little kids on bikes that had been travelling along side of her (which i didn't see before due to shrubbery). As I am halfway through the intersection, the kids come out into the crosswalk. I had plenty of time to stop and everything, so it wasn't a huge deal, but then this woman has the nerve to honk at me! She is the one who waved these kids into traffic without even looking to see if there were any other cars at the intersection. As the kids proceeded into the intersection, she had one of those dopey "oh--how cute" looks on her face. Kudos to the kids for having common sense to look both ways after they got past the front end of her car.

I am going to remind my 11-year-old this afternoon to always double-check and be extra wary when a driver waves him on. It's just like when we're stopped at a stop-sign, and I tell him it's ok to go. He's got to double-check me too. I've been drilling that one in to his head. Never even trust dad. Always check for yourself. Always.

Yepper.......kudos to the kids for having common sense "not to take the lady's word for it" and proceed blindly across the intersection to their (gasp) horrific demise. All too often I've witnessed motorists try to be the good samaritan and unintentionally "set someone up" into harms way because they did not allow for all angles of danger.:)

which is why i never let someone forfeit their right of way to me under any circumstances. my favorite is when i'm trying to make a left turn on a four lane road, person on the left side of oncoming stops and waves me through while people are passing on her right at 55mph. yeah, sure, think i'll wait a bit longer, lady.

Yeah, that one's classic. The only person I hate more than her is the guy behind her who whips around and almost nails me.
