Well, today my parents, who live in Florida, celebrate their 64th anniversary, so, since I can't be there to celebrate with them, I have (two years in a row) ridden their anniversary in miles. Today I was able to edge just past it, finishing with 65.3 miles.

I still might go out and get another five miles, just to hit 70 for the day, but my body, now that I've showered and am having a cold (root) beer, says, "No. That's enough."

I did my usual round and round Coronado, which some folks tease me since it's a six mile cycle, but I love the ride. I get views of San Diego, the ocean, the tourists and coeds who come to the beach, the Hotel del Coronado, a fancy golf course, and so on. I did take a "detour" down the strand in the middle of the ride.

I'm a slowpoke and I stopped for lunch and a couple of rests. I got a late start (11:30) and finished about six hours later, but I was going about 12-15 almost all the time. So I guess I take long breaks!

Nutrition consisted of a gyros sandwhich for lunch, two (root) beers, two Dr Peppers (I know, I was supposed to give up soda!), and one breakfast bar. About one full bottle of water as well.

I'm tired, but not exhausted by any means. A little sore here and there, but again, nothing major. It was a good ride, and I thought about my folks, and the blessings they've had and that they have given me, and it was good. 72 degrees, winds at 10 mph.

Well Gary, I guess the back is feeling fine, and I'm glad to hear it. Nice ride, but now you have the bike to do that century, good going, and many more happy miles.

Well, I guess I joined you in riding your parent's anniversary. Although poking along on a Trek hybrid on dirt trails took me a lot longer.

64 anniversaries!!! Now that's an incredible number!

Congrats to you and especially to them.

Give up soda? How many things do you deny yourself before the "golden years" suck? Do what your parents did and you will fare just fine Gary.

Any new beach pictures from Gary,s Beaver Cam?

Another feel great post. Congratulations to your parents Gary, and to you too for a more than fine ride. It is hard for me to fathom that you drank that small amount and still were able to carry on that far. I drink that much in 20 miles here now, of course today it was literally 90 degrees and 90 percent RH. We had widespread ground fog on my drive home tonight after my ride at 80 degrees air temp. That is humidity!

Well, now it's two hours later, and to use my favorite stapfam expression, I'm SHATTERED! Everything hurts! And I do mean everything!

That's exactly how I felt last night:( Do you think we might be feeling our age?

I did a 33 mile ride yesterday with 3 of those 10% grade hills, several 3-5% and lots of the long gradual 1-2% stretches. Yes, there were some great downhills but the best one came very early in the ride. After the ride I went to a family picnic, returned home, put on my pajamas, took some Tylenol PM and went to bed at 7:30:o I felt much better this morning but there are muscles hurting in my legs that I didn't even know existed:eek:

The back is better (for the moment!), thanks for remembering, George. Plus I bought this pretty cool massage thingie that I can use with my office chair from the state fair. (The massage thing is from the fair, not my chair.) It really seems to help!

Great ride and congrats to your parents. May they have many more. I'll bet they are the only parents in the world that get honored with a bike ride on their anniversary.

A man after my own heart!

This is a great idea for a ride. I like the sentiment.

Congratulations on a great ride. 72 degrees in July??? I want to live in SD.

Congratulations also to your parents! What a nice idea to ride in their honor.

Just think how impressive this might be if only there was a little elevation change involved.

I am astounded. Now I hope you put Ruby to bed with a cup of Cocoa. She's never been out that long.
