View Full Version : Huntington Beach - any lockers to put keys/wallet/cell in before going in water?
I'm a Santa Monica local and just ride my bike to the beach, lock it up, and jump into the ocean. However, I need to drive to Huntington Beach and was wondering where I can put my keys, wallet, cell phone, etc. after I find parking. Can any Surf City locals shed some light? I saw a lot of surfers just walking to the beach and jumping right in w/o worrying about all of their personals. I assume they just left them all at their apartments.

Or they park a bit from the beach and leave their stuff in their cars.... as far as lockers go, Ive never seen any down by the pier... I take it your planning on riding down here and not driving??
No, man, drive. But how can you leave all of the stuff in your car? Where do you put your car key? I've got a fancy keyless-remote-entry key that I'm pretty sure I shouldn't get wet, much less salty wet. When you go to the beach, where do you put your key? I'm afraid it would get dislodged/lost if I get hit by a big wave.

they're waterproof.
It's what I use when I ride.
Bought mine at Big 5.

Before you leave your house, put a key behind your license plate or on a string around your neck. When you park your car, lock your remote inside. When you get out of the water, use the key. Unattended beach lockers are terrible. They become drug drops and security risks.

MAC.....why don't you ever go riding with us?
Drew12 - dude, one wave and that's off my neck.
Grumpy Pig - even if I tied a key to my swim trunks I'd be concerned about it jamming into my body when a wave hits.
One of my roommates was always around so I never took anything with me when I went to the beach. Or else there was always someone who just wanted to sit in the sand so we'd leave our keys with him. But if it's just my friend and I, both of us are going into the ocean.
Surely I'm not the only one who has faced this situation before. I was even thinking of just locking everything inside my car then hiding my key in a metal box and use a rare-earth magnet to hide it somewhere underneath the body of my car. How often do criminals search the underside of someone's car for a key anyways?

All the time. They'll watch the lot. Put the hidden key in place before you get to the beach.
Is there any valet parking at Huntington Beach with/or some lockers in a secured lobby? I wouldn't mind paying higher parking fees and walking a longer distance if they had this.

My swim trunks have a small interior pocket where I stick a key. I've never noticed the key when I'm out there (which isn't often).
What do you do with your bike lock key?

I used a combination lock so I wouldn't have to carry a key.

you have to be careful at Huntington Beach. There are groups of people that watch for visitors stashing their keys around the cars. They have signs up warning of the high theft problem. What I have done in the past is get a spare key locker with a combo lock. When I would park at the beach and need to stash my keys, I would just put my keys in there and attatch it to one of the tow hooks on the back of my car.

key pocket in my wet suit or trunks (if its not there sew one on)
I leave my remote in the car and use the cheapo spare key.
Hey JonnyOgre, got a link? But wouldn't a pair of cutters easily snip off a Master-lock? Maybe I'll try to sew in an extra liner in my shorts and put my valet key in there.

I picked up a realtor's lock box from home depot and haven't had any problems in HB. $30 or so and has a push button combo.

If you wear a rash guard, then the keys around the neck tucked inside the rash guard will be ok. If you get to H.B. early enough, park near the Public Library on Main Street. The perimeter streets do not always have parking meters.
If you plan to stay over the weekend, check into the Hilton or Hayatt. Nice accomodations.

he hit the nail on the head, although I dont remember mine being that expensive. Look in the area where they make keys. Good luck.
I searched the web and found HitchSafe (http://www.hitchsafe.com/), however I drive a sports car.

I counted 5 excuses not to go to the beach.

you're joking, right?
At my college's pool there are two kinds of lockers - one where you can bring in your own lock (i.e. a Master-lock w/ a combo so there's no key), or you can rent one which has the key on a safety pin to attach to your swimsuit. Can you guess where the end of that safety pin found itself? But I guess if I had a separate, flat pocket I could put my valet key in there.

If the real reason for this thread to give you an excuse to post your penis piercing pictures, there are probably better sites elsewhere.
