Here are some photos from two of our recent cargo bike picnic rides. We meet up somewhere in town and ride out to one of the city parks for a picnic and get-together. Numerous varieties of cargo bikes and trailers are loaded with food, beverages, grills, charcoal, lawn furniture, and small children.

Hmm... you have pics of me (or at least my back side) and my "Heavy Duty" Xtracycle. I really need to connect your face to your bike forums handle next time.

There were three or four that look similar. A Rivendell Bleriot, an Ivy Cycle, and one or two with no logo.

Very cool! Thanks for sharing. I haul freight with a B.O.B. Yak (woefully inadequate for the job, but...) for a delivery company in DC. There are only three others here using trailers or freight bikes to make deliveries.

Jim,
Try Clever Cycles (http://www.clevercycles.com) they are in Portland, OR. I have been looking at how to get one over here too:D The small town I will be moving too in the next year or so is pretty flat so one of those would be awesome to use.
Edit: Here is another one Dutch Bike Seattle (http://www.dutchbikeseattle.com/) and The Dutch Bicycle Company (http://www.dutchbikes.us/cargo.html)they are East Coast in Florida.

Is the padded seat on the Xtracycle an add-on, or did you customize it?

The padded seat is an add-on someone makes here in Seattle, if I am not mistaken. None of the bikes with those belongs to me. There are a surprising number of Xtracycles running around the city.

Yes. I believe that you can use a shim to install a stem on your seatpost. None of the child-carrying xtras belong to me, by the way; I don't have kids.

As you can see from the picture, this one is from CleverCycles. Apparently someone is going to be selling them soon in Seattle. Also I believe there is a distributer in Vancouver BC.

I think because of that I want to get an xtracycle when my daughter is big enough to be out of the trailer.

These bikes have been available here in the states for 17 YEARS. You can buy them at a place called CAT (http://www.catoregon.org/hpm/longhaul4kids.htm), located in Eugene, Oregon. Here's a couple shots from their site:

The new ones are superior. SRAM 3x9 hub (shift while pedaling, single front chain-ring, etc.), disc brakes, powder-coated in any color you want, optional fiberglass lockable, waterproof box or flatbed,...
...and they cost a THOUSAND dollars less than a Bakfiets.
