Would anyone recommend eating complex carbs the night before commuting?

I always try to convince myself that I'm carbo loading when I'm eating loads of pasta and drinking a beer, but I think that I just like them!!!

It would depend on how far the "commute" is. BTW I agree with cat!:D

I seem to be permanently carbo loading. However, there probably isn't much point making a special effort the night before a commute.

I figure a commute to be a training ride and don't bother carb loading. I only bother worrying about carbs in the days leading up to a race or other large event.

But like uciflylow, it depends on how far the commute is and how often you do it. If it is longer then your normal rides and you only do it once every other week or so, then maybe carb loading would be in order.

In general, I like to eat a balanced diet. I have found that I can get through almost everything just by eating healthy at every meal.

I used to believe that my commute (20 miles in 1h15m; lots of lights) required a carb mini-binge in the early afternoon along with a balanced, though carb-heavy diet otherwise.

I don't believe that any more. I've backed off the carbs somewhat, particularly the mid-pm mini-binge, with absolutely no noticeable impact. I always have my Gatorade during the ride, though.
