Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Whoa!! :)
I'm not sure I need as much eyeball searing power as that looks to provide, however 2many will be lining up :D
I think the Wilma at 850 Lumens should suffice. In fact, I wish the Wilma's Light head was a bit smaller in overall diameter :(

Do you mean the older one with 4 LED's? I think it's the same outside diameter as my Edison, just a little bigger than a bare mr 11 size bulb ?
You want my old 900 lumen Edison 10? :D

do you know if the new 7 led light is using cree led's or the older 3w luxeons? If it is using crees, that light has the potential of 1000+ lumens..

Just got the go a head to talk about this new light, which still doesn't have a name so if you would like help in the naming there is a poll on there forum, click here.
http://www.lupine-lights.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=1292
This new light is producing 1500 lumens! It is not using cree or luxeon, thats all i'm gonna say right now ;)
The new light will come in kits similar to the Edison kits.
13.8ah, Charger One, helmet mount in the top
6.8ah, Charger One, helmet mount next one down
6.8ah, Charger One, headband in another model
It will also have a range from high to a 1watt setting to read maps, work on your bike and such, and will also have new program settings, more info on that to come :D

If its not using cree or luxeon, that only leaves SSC P4 leds.. any clue on burn times for this light..

Not sure about the burn times yet, but I will be getting that info soon. It does sound like this thing is running very efficient, expect very high run times.

that sounds great.. my 3 year old+ HID light is showing its age.. I don't minding spending the money but want to get 4 hour burn times when I ride at night.. When will this new light be available?

You def will get more than 4hrs of burntime on high with the new one, and even Wilma does that already. The new light will be available in a few weeks :D

Well, the Edison 10 would be sweet, but I'm looking forward to the compact Wilma 6, LED unit with decent burn times...
But who knows, come the next few weeks, the New 7 LED Helios (Greek Sun God, and my formal name submission :D ) may have me convinced

Depends on what wattage each LED is run at.
In the case of the P4, it can be driven at up to 3 watts (~210 lumens at 3watts for the U-binned LEDs) that's 21 watts and 1470 lumens! but only if they can keep the junction temp under about 40 degrees celsius.
They lose a little bit of efficiency when driven at their maximum, only 70 lumens/watt. At 10.5watts you'd get ~870 lumens for 80lumens/watt and at 7 watts (1 watt each LED) you's get ~700 lm for a very respectable 100 lumens/watt which is about the best available in LED technology at the moment.
These power figures are at the LED and don't take into consideration losses through the driver circuit, but they're pretty small anyhow. You can allow 4% or 5% losses to be on the safe side. Now just pick a battery size and a brightness level and you can easily figure out your runtime.

Just using a rough estimate.... The 830 lumen claim compares about right (almost the same) with a beam at night to my 900 lumen light. That gives the 830 lumen claim credibility.
If The Wilma with 4 LED's is 830 lumens. 830 divided by 4 = 207.5 lumens from each LED. The new one has 7 led's ......7x 207.5 = 1452.5 lumens.
They say 1500 lumens from the light. So it's in the 207 plus lumen ball park roughly from each led. Lupine made a custom ballast for the HID bulb that beats everyone else, so it's believable that they are finding a way to get what they say from each LED.

1. How much is the ball park price?
2. Runtime highest and runtime lowest
3. . . . How heavy is the battery going to be?
4. What is the lens pattern? 2xspot? 4x flood and rest spot? Degree of the flood/spots?
5. How hot does it get when run at the highest setting? Hot enough to make ramen in?
6. Does it come with a pair of Raybans? :)

Zero, I can answer some of your questions. I don't really have a ballpark price yet, but it will be more then Edison. Don't want to quote on runtimes yet, but they sound really good! The batteries are the same they've had so... Not real sure about the lens pattern, but I'm sure I will have that info as well soon. What I have heard though is that this light (hope they go with Helios) has better management of heat, because that was something I asked about. If this thing is putting out that much light won't it get hot? They told me it won't fry eggs, so no cooking ramens either. As for the raybans :o

Just a little more info I got,
Some more facts:
Diameter 54 mm
Length 44 mm
Weight ~160 gr (lighthead only)
Power Levels from 0.5W to 22W
Note 0.5W is an emergency mode form ultra long runtimes
Lumens: more than 1400
We also made a couple of changes on the software. The most remarkable one: A new superflash with 2 additional dimmlevels and much easier to select.
We build up a new lens providing a broad beam and still more light in the distance. This was possible due to the 3 more available LEDs.
The new light will be available in 2 differents sets:
One version with the 6.8Ah Li-Ion battery and Charger One:
The 13.8Ah battery and Charger One:
Availibilty: Mid August
Just a note to the price/ performance relation. The 7 LEDs we using are more costly to us than the Edison bulb. We did not build this light to be cheap but to be the best.
Beam pictures: Available soon

I'm curious as to a BF discount. With dangers of fog and snow out there I am more any more leaning towards the rear death star idea mount. I am seriously worried about getting hit from behind as in the front I would highly doubt I'd get hit while moving slowing to see the car in front but from behind is my primary danger before the front. It would be nice if there is some custom reflector material for extra purchase to make that a serious 'back off' light should one be crazy enough to rear mount it. I don't mind carrying 2 spare batteries for day/night use. Hospital bills cost more. I think a ride in the ambulance I read once before costs like $250-300 just for the ride be it serious or not injury but just to pay for that express ride and the medical personals time. Ouch... that's something like $20/min ride should you arrive in 15mins to the hospital. Man makes 900 numbers look el cheap now.
There is NO such thing as too bright on a bike. It'll wake the most distracted driver the heck up. Especially on epleptic (sp) strobe mode.

^ i fully agree! Drivers are so distracte dby their ipods, cellphones, coffee, music, fax machines etc etc etc while they drive. I think there is nothing wrong with a taillight that is brighter than the headlight. At some point i aim to build a tailight that uses a 150W h3 bulb and a focused reflector.

you might want to consider a bunch of planetbike superflashes
i used one by itself and cars changed a whole lane to avoid me
they were more concerned at what the heck i was
some cyclist kept trying to pull ahead of me because he was being blinded by the superflash
i now run a pair under my seat and a separate third on my basket
throw one on your handlebar far left side and one on your rear fender and the pair under your seat and cars won't even come near you
instead of taking another lane, they might take another street

"Eye searing tail light", "world's brightest headlight". This is like thinking I was all alone on the planet and then discovering other humans. Can we form our own religion?
Every time we read a post where someone promotes less lighting or dimmer tail lights (so the poor cagers don't get blinded), let's call them infidels.
