I swear, this week I just can't get myself on the bike! Haven't ridden since last Saturday. Probably will do the shop ride tomorrow. Maybe it's the heat....same ole routes....I got up this morning to ride early and blew it off in favor of a couple of waffles!

No, never.

Actually, only after a long hard ride i'll sometimes feel like i'm sick of it. I'll look at my bicycle and feel absolutely disgusted.

Then after i'm rested up (give it a day or two) i'll be itching to get out for a ride again.

I never get sick of riding (yet!), but I do find myself tiring of the rides I do--mostly club rides, some of them always on the same route, some different, but combining bits and pieces of rides done before. On the 4th I did a ride down by the shore with another club, and the route was actually pretty dull, but I enjoyed it just because the route was so unfamiliar.

Nothing prevents me from designing my own rides and doing them myself--I do that sometimes. But I miss the cameraderie of group rides, and the encouragement.

Yummmm......

Of course, it didn't help anything that at 6 am, my wife walked into our workout room and started up on the treadmill. Geez......Ok....I'm really gonna try to get a ride in after jury duty today....maybe......

This is where friends will help your motivation. If you have good friends to ride with, you're always ready to go. Sometimes a change to a mountain bike ride will help, too.

Sheldon - you get out on that bike right this minute! ;) :p

Seriously, I realized yesterday that I ****ed up and I'm not flying back today but tomorrow! Now, my riding and all my chores and work have to be completed on Sunday. I doubt I'll get more than a 25 mile ride in on Sunday morning. :( I haven't ridden since the Grand Tour! Yes, I rode my dad's bike all of like 10 miles, but I'm not even adding those miles to Bike Journal.

If I don't ride soon, I'm going to go crazy. So, to answer your question - NO, I never get sick of riding, and, in fact, the opposite - I get sick if I don't ride!

:o You are so sweet, Herb. I really DO want to join on one of those, but I suspect I'll just get up at 5 or 6am and ride straight from my front door over to Griffith Park and back (well, up into the canyons for sure!). I'm going to the gym today and plan to ride my dad's bike later, but my fitness level must be shot at present from all the driving and sitting and eating and sitting and talking and sitting and eating and...:p

Sure, I sometimes feel like not riding at all. If I don't ride, I feel guilty.....like as if I missed out on a good workout. Instead, I usually go running so that kind of makes up for the guilt trip.
I can also put myself into 100% tinker mode.....just fiddling with bikes in the garage for hours on end....:D

I seem to remember a curtain young lady  who was a little burned out after a double she did and it took quit a few days before she got back on the bike.:)

I may join on CSUN, but I'm kind of anti social right now. I'm all out of sorts and have a head cold (I had a full blown asthma attack this morning - I was in cigarette smoke for a full day at a relative's house and it made me ill for sure). So, I'll see how I feel on Sunday.

And, Dante, silly - there is a difference between feeling too tired to get on the bike and being sick of riding. I'm never sick of it! :D

All kidding aside, is everything OK with your asthma? Did you have the proper meds? Did you have the proper delivery system? If you need any help you can call me, my wife is with me and she can help you through any problems.

Thanks, Dante.:o Actually, the airconditioning and cholrine was what set it off and then being around cigarettes (which I'm deathly allergic to) pushed me over the edge. I started wheezing and coughing like crazy this morning. My mom was worried, but I had my inhaler and Foradil. Now, I'm all stuffed up and my chest hurts, but I'm sure once I get back where it is dry, I should be okay.

I get the same sometimes but to me it's like any other time...I just "ride through it".

Most of the time it's because I'm tired, I mostly work 6 Days a week, quite often I spend the first 8-9 miles simply spinning, trying to get going, but eventually everything warms up, the Legs stop creaking, the blood starts flowing and I have a blast...

I have no real excuses, I don't have to sit there thinking "ugh, I have to put the Bike in the Car, drive somewhere..ride, drive home..." because I live 3 mins ride from the Backbay trail...plus I have an awesome light so I can go for a ride 24 hours a Day...

But yeah, if I don't feel like going I know I have to ride through the doldrums....

I find also that if you arrange to meet someone at a certain time whether it's a group or just one person, then you HAVE to BE there...this also helps...

On the other Paw, I start to feel mentaly and physicaly down if I don't ride for 2-3 days....

+1,000,000. I'm a depressed lump of lard right now because not only haven't I ridden, but I haven't exercised. I'm going to go to the gym this afternoon, but nothing like a long ride to work all things bad out of your system!

It's odd ... sometimes we go in completely different paths. Here you are, needing to get more miles in ... here I am trying to reduce it, making sure I don't overstress my knees ... but I think I'll still go for a ride on Sunday at the coast ... not sure about Saturday yet.

Come ride Pahrump, NV in the summer with me. It is so dry your sweat evaporates before you ever feel it. You can pee in a head wind with no fly back. Snot rockets bounce off the pavement. The people think sun block is moisturizer. Home owners use gravel for lawns. The people there think athlete’s foot is a foreign substance. Road kill evaporates before your eyes. Getting bugs off you windshield is ken to jack hammering cement. It is so dry draft beer is severed in a loving cup.

I have never been able to ride enough to get sick of it.

I've only gotten sick of riding once, and that was on the 3rd day of P-B-P in '91. I just wanted it to be over!

Now there are days when I'm feeling as if I'm (almost) in over-training mode, so I do slow recovery rides, or even stay off the bike for a day, . . . but that's not because I'm sick of riding, rather, it's because I don't want to get "sick of riding."

Rick,
This really hits home to me. Maybe that's what's happening to me. I think I'll go easy this weekend, especially after doing a GT, then Giro the following weekend.

Yes Ron,

Recovery rides are very helpful on several levels (recovery, attitude, motivation, fitness) but you must FORCE yourself to ride SLOW. I know, it's not natural and that's why it's so difficult. Do you have a single-speed? I set up my old MASI as a single-speed with a 42 x 16 and that's how I force myself to ride slow.

Yeah, a lot of riders go past me when I'm on the singe speed, but that's OKAY!

I did some long recovery rides since I had Eastern Sierra, Ride Around the Bear and Grand Tour in rapid succession.

Works for me!

I am going crazy NOT being able to ride....

But when I have gotten into the "Don't want to ride funk" before, a week off the bike cured it. If that doesn't work, buying something new or upgrading something always helps.

Yeah, but for me biking isn't my main activity. I need to work in some cardio so I like to mix it up between running, biking, swimming, heavy/speed bag, jump rope, etc. What I do feel guiltly about if I miss a workout is weightlifting. :p

So I'm sitting here at lunch break from jury duty and see my thread lit up!

For me, I think I'm just a bit burned out due to a lot of activities this week, plus some boredom over doing too many of the same routes. I think I need to try a few new ones and that will get my jones for riding back up. This week of jury duty has thrown off all of my routines as well. The judge says we are done at 4 today to pick up next week. So, I'm heading out before dinner for a cruise.

Hey Adam! You gotta git better quick 'cause I'm counting on riding with you!

What is the prognosis?

And what is the story with your bike? New frame? New bike? New bell and streamers?

Just letting time pass so that my wounds can heel. It will be a while (3-6 months) before I will know how successful the surgery was. Nerves take a long time to heal..... Looks like my re-attacthed tendons are doing well as I can move my fingers much better now.

At this point, a new bike it will be .. to go with my massive left arm scaring.

I get sick of riding when its ridiculously out. I haven't ridden this week since Monday and am planning on doing some intervals this afternoon but it'll probably be in the high 90s around 6 p.m. so I'm not looking forward to it.

I've gotten quite lazy since I started riding last year. Used to ride both days on a weekend, but mostly only riding just on Saturday now. I find that I get more motivated after BF or century rides. It also helps to have some targets to aim for as well. Timing targets up nearby hills/loops, weight lost targets, etc.

nope actually I have been loving it alot in the past few months(more than usual). I even rode for a week straight after my very nice fall on Baldy.

Riding in the heat is interesting. It really adds a new element to the whole ride. I'm more of a cold rider(much more prefer the cold), but I can hack it in the heat without too much complaints.

Also riding after around 9pm owns. So nice, so cool, so free...I can't explain it.

Sick of riding.... no. Sometimes unmotivated, but it doesn't usually last very long before I'm itching to get back on. Its almost always my body just trying to tell me to take a rest.

Sick of training, but not riding. It's always changing up fer me. Been riding consistently since 94. 13 years and I still enjoy it. Maybe cause I'll do a year or two with Gina, then alone for some harder riding and training. Then again for another one or two! Keeps it mixed up!:D
