greetings!
i'm a 45-year-old (well, ok....i'll be 46 in one week) school administrator in charlottesville, va (home of UVa and Mr. Jefferson).
my wife and i discovered a new love in biking last summer. we planned a trip to acadia national park in maine. read about the 50+ miles of gravel carriage paths there that are blocked from autos and thought it would be nice to ride them. traded in our old, seldom-used bikes for matching Trek 4200 mountain bikes. anyway, riding those trails made us fall in love with cycling.
since that time we've realized that we're more interested in commuting and touring than off-road. this spring, my wife got a beautiful heron touring frame with custom components. after trying to bike all over nova scotia with my mountain bike, i kept hinting that i needed a more tour-friendly bike as well, maybe next year.
this morning, my wife purchased a mint 1986 Trek 620 as a surprise!
so cycling has become a way for us empty-nesters to be outdoors, get some great exercise, and do something we love together. we're also getting into doing our own maintenance and are aquiring tools and a repair stand.
