So here I go for a little cruise on my Trek Hybrid to a neighborhood I've never been to before. Not a serious ride, in fact I'm wearing my jeans and a ball cap.....so stupid me, I get lost. No problem, here comes a guy on a road bike with all the trimmings, he'll be able to direct me back towards home. Freindly enough guy but he sent me the wrong way, as did several other riders over the next couple of days...all of them on road bikes. Next thing I know it's the Fourth of July, I'm in Iowa. Several states away from home. I'm tired, hungry, the wind's blowing in my face and I'm mad enough to kill...and wouldn't you know it, here comes another one smiling from ear to ear. Grrrrrrrr.

They must have thought you were entered in the RAGBRAIŽ (http://www.ragbrai.org/), The Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across IowaŽ, RAGBRAIŽ (http://www.ragbrai.org/). So, hang around, only 15 days, 14 hours, 28 minutes, and 24 seconds until RAGBRAI XXXV!

For some reason this reminds me of the guy I drove with to RAGBRAI last year.
He made a big point of bringing his GPS.
I didn't want to burst his bubble, but the driving directions just weren't that complicated.
Go over the George Washington Bridge. Drive straight 1,000 miles. Take your first left after crossing the Mississippi. Look for the signs.

Yesterday I had to help out two riders who were lost on rail trails!
And they had maps with them!!!
You gotta get one of those Garmin GPS things so that you don't suffer a repeat of this unfortunate misadventure.

Make a right a 1/2 mile past the barn that used to be there.

Thats as bad as the directions I was given a few years ago-
"If you want to go there- I wouldn't start from Here"

We actually had an instruction on a route slip that read, "Turn right where the burned down farm house used to be." This was when I still lived in MO, on a ride in Central IL.
Everyone made the right turn, no one got lost.

One of my secret delights when I worked as a travel agent 30 years ago was telling people "you can't get there from here." Heh.

If you was in Greenville, North Carolina right about now you'd hear those famous words I used to hear all the time: "Ya'all ain't from around heya, are ya boy."
Hey, I live in Iowa. You can't get lost here.:)
