Does anyone have a sense of how old it is? What it might be worth? Whether it would be a good choice for a commute?
About 1987. $175. And they are good riding bikes.
He is asking $250 CDN — about $185 US — because of the components or wishful thinking?

Because it's vancouver. The craigslist market will often see bikes fetch more than they would on ebay. It's crazy, I would have a look and offer $200 if it fits and rides well.

oh, what a drag. of course. we're paying everyone's mortgages ..
$200 was my thought too. thanks.
Okay I am now going to see 2 very similar-sounding Centurions tomorrow morning. I am freaked! And then an Apollo and a Sekine, to bring it home again. And then the Marinoni tomorrow. Hopefully the first guy isn't a total charlatan. The second guy is a grandpa in a trailer park who sounds like a wicked funny storyteller.
Fingers crossed I end up with a totally hot ride by Monday. Bike, I mean. ;)
That very bike, unsightly paint and all, is hanging on the wall of my barn waiting for me to get enough dough to refinish it in a more suitable hue.
$CDN are almost like real $ now, so I myself wouldn't go over $200.

Unsightly? :)
I LOVE it. Either I'll have it tomorrow or it won't fit me and I'll cry for 10 minutes. Tops.

Uh oh, time for me to chime in.
I have a pink and white Dave Scott Centurion Expert, and it's very nice. A bit twitchy (I think because it has a 24" front wheel), but very nice riding. I love the pink and yellow combination--who would steal it? It's so distinctive.
Don't go over $200 CDN though.

The frame is nice, but the 600 versus 105 difference would cause me to be luke warm at best on that one. I would be much warmer to it if it were a Master with the 600.

I too am fond of that mustard and pink color combination as well as East Hills pink and white, which I always thought of as being more of a salmon color. Both color combinations are distinctive and look great on a well prepared bike, IMO.
As for the OP's CL bike, judging by the bar tape and hoods it appears to have seen some hard miles. Add to that mismatched wheels and the asking price seems too high. If the bike is available I would still have a look see in person and feel out the seller, you can low ball for the reasons stated and see what happens.
I agree with Little Darwin, the Master Ironman bikes with the Shimano 600 are more desirable and valuable.
My '86 and '88 Masters.

My '86 and '88 Masters.
I appreciate how you have aligned the tire sidewall information 180 degrees from the tube stem. I do this, also. (Am I the only person to notice this... )

Hmm. I'll have to try that! Another photo tip to add to the growing list.
So Helter, did you get a bike yet?

Hey peeps,
This bike was in crap shape. seriously. Rust, tires were shredding, front wheel was wobbly. All the stuff you noticed and more. Neglected.
And, so weird, but when I talked to the guy on the phone prior to going over there, he sounded shifty. He didn't know what size it was and couldn't answer my questions, and I don't know, it was just a feeling I should have paid attention to.
The next Centurion I looked at was freakin gorgeous. Minimally ridden, shiny red, pretty handlebar tape (all the really critical things haha) but was too small.
East Hill, I did buy a bike yesterday. And I am kinda on the fence about it. I'll post it soon in another thread with pics ..
