If someone can get you to the Lexington area-and preferably across Lexington- I can probably get you the rest of the way on back roads.

AndyVegan, you got a deathwish?! I'll look among my routes to see if I can find you something. I used to just take Amtrak.... :)

I live right out side of Lexington. I might be able to get you through there. Where do you live in G'boro?

but that might be a little bit out of you're way.
U could also check out the Morrisville Brevet courses. They go from Morrisville (west of Raleigh) more or less straight west and get on the "Old Greensboro Hwy" between Chapel Hill and G'boro (Snow Camp), then head to Siler City & Seagrove & the Uwharrie Mtns. These could help U decide if certain roads are "bike-worthy". But prob not.
(Tongue firmly in my own cheek.)

i rode that route from greensboro to raleigh last year on my track bike. the ride to chapel hill was nice but once we got onto the other roads some good sized hills were involved, i was feeling it about 75 miles into it but i realized how close i was and with about 4 miles left to go i got a burst of energy and flew. i need to do that again...but with alot of chamois cream this time.

Old 29 has a lot of interesting sights. It may get a little hairy around Concorde. I go from HP to Kannapolis that way.

i live by spring garden in greensboro if that helps at all roadrider. even if you knew how to get there from winston salem, that would help. i've ridden there plenty of times. i just take market street which turns into mountain and i turn onto old greensboro road to get there. i must say theres some good sized hills on that road and the road right off old greensboro road, maybe 5th street i think. i have some friends that have walked their bikes up the hill once you first turn onto 5th street, the one that is real steep and turns towards the top just before mlk drive. you know where i'm talking about?
