If you have a claim under the comprehensive portion of your automobile policy then you will be surcharged on your insurance the next time the policy is due for renewal, and for three years or more to come, and will get into penalty surcharge situations if you ever have another claim or ticket. IMO you are better off self-insuring and driving carefully. If the bike is damaged in an accident which is the other driver's fault you will still have a valid claim for the fair maket value of the damage. Further, if your bike is damaged and you make a claim under the collision policy, you insurance company will find a million ways not to pay you full value, even if the bike is insured.

If your bike gets stolen, from your home or elsewhere, your homeowners' policy usually covers part of the cost.
