Classic & Vintage - What do you think of these wheels?

I've found a used wheelset that I'm interested in buying, but the seller is advising that:


There are a few very small dents in the rims, but they are not noticeable when riding or braking. I would say that the wheels are true within 2mm.and...



There are two that are very difficult to see on the rear rim (none on the front), and I could only find them by running my fingers along the top edge of the rim.


What do people think? Should I run from these? Or are those two small dents and wheels true within 2mm nothing to worry about?

Is this an auction or a local listing where you'd have an opportunity to inspect the rims?

I'm assuming there's something special about them that has you interested but I wouldn't buy them unless I could see them. At least the seller appears to be honest and that's a good sign.

There's not very much to go on from what you've posted but depending on the rim and the location of the dents, it's possible that if these are hooked rims and the "hook" has been affected, it may not hold a tire as well.

I suppose it's also possible that the rim has been weakened. What's a small dent now may the starting point for a big nasty crease later.

Of course, I know next to nothing about rims, so keep that in mind ;-) No one else seemed to be responding.

Anyway, if this is an Ebay auction, I'd pass.

But these wheels would really fit the bill for my current project...

I just don't know enough about wheels to tell if the description indicates a problem I should be concerned about. For example, if the wheels are 2mm out of true, does that indicate something more than "they need to be trued"?

I don't think the average mechanic can rectify the consequences of a dinged rim.

I would pass on them, myself. The rim holds the tire which is the only thing that touches the road. I don't want even a slight 'thunk' coming through every revolution of the wheel.

If the dings were SO slight, and I could ride the wheels before I bought, I might change my mind, but sight unseen...no way.

Run away unless you are getting a VERY good price and include shipping in that assessment. Some of the shipping costs I have seen for wheels is pretty ridiculous.
