Mountain Biking - Decision Time

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Ok, I went today and checked out some bikes. I was pretty much looking at a Giant, Trek, or Gary Fisher. Just had to make a decision on which one and model. I ended up sitting and riding around on all three brands. The Gary Fisher had the best position to me. The others felt a little more crunched up. So the had the GF Marlin for 400.00 and the Tassajara for 520.00 The Marlin is only in 21". It felt ok. The Tassajara I rode was 19". I felt a little more nimbe and easier to move around. They also had the Giant Yukon for something like 350.00. And a trek 4500 for about the same. My question is should I get the Tassajara or is the Marlin a better buy for 120.00 less. I would have to look somewhere else for the Marlin to get a 19". I would rather go with the Gary Fisher brand because of the seating position. But I am open for all comments and suggestions. As I don't have a whole lot of experience in this.
thanks
hopefully be riding soon

The one that fells the best.
Everyone will have their own opinions but what works for another may not for you. If you can find a 19" GF to ride give it a try. There is a big differance between a 21" and a 19" frame and you will notice it when riding.
If you are going to be riding tight technical trails try and get the smallest frame you can that still feels comfortable. If you will be doing long epic rides, alot of climbing and not to technical get a frame on the bigger side.

The GF definately felt the best of the ones I rode around at the bike shop. I will probably end up going with that one. And the 19" felt a little more nimble than the 21".
21" is a huge frame, I ride a 17".

Gary Fisher is a good bike. I actually recommended a Tassajara to a co-worker.
Buy what rides best!
