I think this is one of the best articals I have seen about freerideing. Yes they are speaking of Denver, CO. but it applies to all resorts accross the country.

"All riders want is a little variety, a chance to go to a mountain with more than two trails and some options," Setsma said. "If there was one mountain with 10 trails, nobody would ride anywhere else. Build it and they will come."

Its true...most people in bc don't ride outside of bc...on whistler mountain alone there is 20 trails and that doesn't include the valley, squamish, nelson or the shore. All combined I have no doubt there are more the 500 very good technical trails within 2 hours of me :)
For that mountain in particular they are going to have to realize the evolution of mountain biking and embrace it in order to continue making money. It is a fact of life for any resort. 10 years ago there was no tourism in whistler in the summer and now we are growing at a rate of 50% per year and by 2010 are expected to exceed ski season for tourism (yehaw). Freeriding is a fact of life and the sooner resorts give good well made, well maintained trails the better for the resort, the riders and the environment (no 'making our own trails') As a ski resort they should realize it costs money to generate money. If they create a series of great trails and risk operating at a loss for a short time and increase prices and well advertise I have no doubt they could make a buttload if they just thought about it :)
Read the article. The one photo was quite inspiring. A 54 yr old taking air. Cool!
