Does anyone have information on the NYC Century on sept 7, specifically is it all start and stop like the NYC tour earlier this year.

Hotch... FYI: 55 miles and above, you'll be riding more than stopping.

Meaning the first 55 miles will be agony with traffic and lights. You must have to speed up the second half if it takes so long for the first half.

There is not that much stopping in the first half of this century. I rode it last year. It starts real early at like 5:30 or 6:30. There is really no traffic, you have to watch but at that time there is no traffic. Even if you do have to stop it will be only a couple of seconds probably. This was my first organized ride and i loved it.

Bike New York wasnt that good, all the rest stops were empty, it was poorly run, you never knew waht was going on, and so on. i liked the ride itself (The Route), but i dont know if i would ever do it again. The MS Ride which is in September is 100% better than than the Bike New York RIde.

I think your confusing two rides. The new York century was full of food, well marked route, a direction sheet. I know this was my only ride but i thought it was pretty nice. I plan on doing the MS ride in september, i can't make the ny century ride.

I went over 100 miles last year on the NYC Century tour last year. I loved the first part of it. Hundreds of cyclists taking over all the lanes on Broadway while taxis/cars have to yield to us.

I haven't trained at all this year......I'll probably be doing the ride, but I'll be only doing 30 miles or so (the 75/100 route passes by my house in Bklyn). Once I reach that point, I'll probably stop.

Anyone else doing this ride? I went solo last year. It'll be nice to have a riding buddy for a little while.

Since the ride is next week, maybe I'll start training this week for it.

Last year, my longest ride was around 40 miles before I attempted the century. Not a good thing! My knees killed me at the end, and I was sore for a good 24 hours.

Is there anyone going for the 75/100 mile route looking for a riding buddy? (I'll ride with you from Central Park to Bay Pkwy in Bklyn).

My buddy and I might be doing this ride. My average will be around 20+ but he might pump it up to around 24/25. I think we'll be doing the 75 too as the furthest weve trained in the last few weeks is around 55 miles. Is it a pretty flat course? Any major hills?

The course varies each year, but there are typically few/no "killer" hills. There are normal grades and climbs.

I could be totally wrong, but with general condition of the roads, traffic, and number of stop lights, I think you may have considerable trouble maintaining a rolling average of 20+MPH.
