no didn't buy anything this trip- My wife has her eye on the oma, but we were heading home from a trip to the coast and already had 3 bikes in the car. Just wanted to stop by and check out the shop and do some test ridin

Dude, I live a mile from there! Next time you head down, let me know. There's great beer across Hawthorne at the Lucky Lab. :)

Deal - We are more coca cola people though, if that's ok :)

While we were there we met a nice chap who has a supremely awesome bike in his garage. I just had time to get my photo taken on it before we had to leave though.

I'll be back for sure- we saw so many nice bikes in that area to drool over.

It's just 3 and a half miles or so, and a very pleasant ride from the train station. The new 2007 Portland area Bike There! map (http://www.metro-region.org/article.cfm?ArticleID=218) has them on it. It's good to know that they're closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Also, they're always welcoming of people who want/need to bring their bike inside. :)

I wanna check out Portland more and more!!!!

My wife and I checked out Portland exactly once (in October 2006). We moved here last may. Our friends asked "why?", to which we replied, "why NOT??". Oh-to stay on topic-Clever Cycles is a wonderful store!

The State of Oregon and the City of Portland would like you to, as well. There's so much available throughout the state for bicycle tourism. I think they do a pretty good job with promoting mountain biking and longer bike road trips, but they're only now starting to realize there is a place for urban bike tourism within the city of Portland. If you fly or take the train, you can (literally) plan an urban trip here and have more to do than you have time with no need to rent a car unless you want to get out of the city and see some of the nearby natural scenic wonders. (which you shouldn't miss, either) If you drive, you can pretty much park the car and leave it there the whole time.

How does this connect to Clever Cycles? Well, since there are so few LBS in North America who sell Bakfietsen and Dutch city bikes, one could come here for some sales tax-free shopping, and have a wonderful car-free or car-light vacation. We're also an extremely dog-friendly city, with many of our hotels allowing them to stay. Kid-friendly, too - most of our brew-pubs have a children's menu.

Come visit us and take back some bike love to your hometowns. We've got lots to spare. :)

SOunds good to me :D

I'm excited about taking some more trips down to portland. There's a few trails we'd like to hit up including a rails to trail type that someone said was just awesome out by the bridge of the gods area? We discovered a neat scenic paved trail out by Astoria this weekend too. Stayed in a hotel under the bridge and then biked along the river to the big naval museum on the water and watched the fireworks. Very cool.

I haven't had a chance to work through those photos yet, but here's one anyway.
