I've always been a "fat wallet" guy. I typically carry a bunch of credit cards, cash, insurance cards, blood donor card, etc. I usually carry this in my left front pocket, and a big wad of keys (car key, door opener fob, RFID gasoline pass, house keys, mailbox key, storage unit padlock key, and a couple of keys whose purpose I completely forget) in my right pocket.
As a techno-geek I've always been lucky enough to have jobs with no strict dress code, so I've always worn blue jeans. Recently, however I took a job with a slightly higher dress code, so I've been wearing slacks and khakis (or whatever you call them) more often. With the thinner fabric, my usual pocket contents really stick out and look ridiculous, and the keys have already worn a hole in one new pair of pants. I look like I'm carrying a couple of baseballs around in my pockets, so I've been searching for ways to slim down my "pantline".
To this end, I've ordered a couple of slim front pocket wallets to try out, specifically the JimiX (http://www.thejimi.com/store/jimix.php) and the Slimmy (http://www.koyono.com/Slimmy-Slim-Wallet-Alternative-p/m17546.htm). These will allow me to carry 3-4 cards and a few bills in my pocket. Also, the JimiX in particular looks like it can double as a good cycling wallet because it's plastic and, while not waterproof, shouldn't allow any sweat to soak through. Plus it has an external money clip to handle any spillover. My plan is to carry the rest of my usual wallet stuff in my backpack, which I carry with me almost everywhere anyway. So that leads me to a couple of questions:
1) Can someone recommend a good carrying case for all my other credit cards, insurance cards, store cards, keyring cards, checkbook, etc? I probably have at least 10-20 cards if you figure it all in.
2) What about keys? Is there some kind of slim key pouch I can use to prevent the keys from poking holes in my pockets? I can carry the less frequently used stuff on the keyring in my backpack.
Anyway, I'm interested in hearing about how other people solve this problem. Yeah, I know, I should get rid of all my store cards, etc., but frankly, if used responsibly, you can sometimes get discounts and special offers with them.
