i was reading an article about the tour this year and the writer said "aside from any crashes, this is a stage you can skip for the day". he was refering to one of the flat stages in a guide for "what to watch in this years tour".
made me think he actually enjoyed watching these athletes slam into pavement and break bones. i wonder if he feels the same way when baseball players get knocked out after getting hit in the head with a pitch?
but it raises a question about people and i wanted to see what you guys though. its a general racing question but do any of you actually 'enjoy' watching crashes?

Nope, can't say I do enjoy seeing anyone crash. It could happen but it's not a reason why I watch. Any writer who pens that a TT stage is one to skip - save any crashes - does not appreciate our sport...

No. I've rehabbed one too many times, sat in one too many physical therapists offices to enjoy watching someone wreck their body.
about as much as i "enjoy" watching snuff films.
Oh, that reminds me - I forgot to return your dvd... ;)

i don't. i don't like boxing or extreme fighting either.

well. sorry to burst everyone's bubbles, but i find it rather exhilarating to see the crashes. i always jump and yell "holy ****!". However i do get rather upset when it's one of my favorite riders going down.
It's not that i don't care about the other riders. It's comparable to a car crash during a nascar race. everyone loves to see them, but you hope that everyone is fine.
Same here, I always find it fascinating, more of a morbid curiosity I guess.
So tomorrow, I've got crashes to look forward to in stange 1, the british formula 1, and well.. wimbleton..
I hate too see cyclists crash because I know how it feels - but I do like Nascar crashes, as that's the only exciting thing about those races and normally the driver walks away.

And drama?
Then there are the almost-crashes - like when Lance went down the mountain in the dirt until he rejoined the race on the other side of a switchback.
Not too long ago - a few years, I think, there was some major race with a crash in the final sprint; one rider, finding his bike unrideable, picked it up and ran across the line. I thought that was pretty sweet - pity I can't really remember any details.

Restrictor plate races... I just wish they had restrictor plate without roof flaps...

Yeah, I saw that too. Was it Breaking Away, or the other bicycling movie?

I don't "enjoy" it but will hit the rewind button to see it again...not sure what that means...fascinating

crashes are not enjoyable, but they are part of what makes the race 'exciting.' the risk, etc. im never happy when someone crashes, but i have the same 'holy ****!' jump up, rewind to watch again and see who was involved, who caused it, etc. this is the first year that i'll have tivo. i never really saw the point of it until the first time i watched a sporting event with it. now i can never live without it. there goes 7 bucks a month for the rest of my life.
I normally look away when a rider goes down... not sure why. :o I can see the fascination, though...
No, its not good. But it does involve me emotionally having hit the asphalt at times myself.
My girlfriend thinks its funny when there's a crash and I get up out of my chair, hands in my hair going 'Oh no!! ****** is down, he's gone down, no!!'
