My wife brought this book home to give me for Father's Day and I just finished it. If you ever watch 'The Unit' on TV this is the series is based off of this book.

Eric Haney is a retired CSM (Command Sergeant Major) of the US Army. He was one of the first successful candidates for the special Army group Delta. The book takes you through the birth of Delta and a look into some of the selection process. Then Haney takes you through several of the missions that he was involved, including the attempted hostage rescue in Iran under President Jimmy Carter. None of the missions are described in detail, but enough information is given to understand the feel of the situation.

The book itself is a short and fast read. The action is fairly fast paced and the voice of the book is very readable. If you have paid much attention to the Special Operations world there will be nothing really new to you when looking at Delta. Many of the missions and their failures are very interesting and eye opening to say the least.

CSM Haney broke tradition and confidences by writing this book, breaking many bonds. This does not take away from his courageous service or the story he weaves.

I recommend the book, but would suggest as a trip to the library to read it. It is too short and too shy on details to make the book a must have in your own personal library. Those on the forums that enjoy government conspiracies and CIA cover-ups will want to read this book. Those that like war stories or stories of valor and courage will want to read this book also.
